Octopuses, which are considered to be very intelligent, have abilities humans can only dream of, including… releasing black ink as a defense mechanism.
Damn the Smithsonian writer really speaking to me here, or am I not alone?
I know I would kill to have this ability
Octopi are neat and all, but did anyone else notice that one of the scientists quoted in the article is named Robyn Crook? I wonder if there was a singular moment in their childhood when they put that together and was like “wtf mom and dad, am I a joke to you?”
I can almost gauruntee that this realization happened in middle school at the hands of some bully
It really is incredible that theyre capable of adapting with such a drastic change to their bodies in order to adapt to cold. Theyre so intelligent and well adapted to their surroundings and yet they live such short lives. One wonders what the world would be like if there were long lived ocotpus out there
Octopus lifecycles are tied to their reproductive cycles. Specimens that had undergone surgery to remove their optic glands lived significantly longer, even if they’d already reproduced.
Aliens I tell ya! Fascinating.
