Imagine playing Minecraft on the Game Boy back in the day. A developer has created a Minecraft demake for the Game Boy called Minecraft Game Boy Edition, also dubbed Microcraft.

It features an incredible soundtrack from Bitcrushed and nostalgic 8-bit visuals.

  • Controls: Simple, with A for using items and B for placing blocks.
  • Inventory: Extensive array of items to place around your world.
  • Progression: While survival mode is still being developed, it’s already fun to explore.

How To Play

See the original article for a link to Psyco’s itch.io page.

Which games do you think deserve the demake treatment?

In my opinion a gba demake would be more interesting. That thing can do semi good 3d graphics. Theres a james bond game on it that is extremely impressive and someone made a port of a few tomb raider levels. Seeing the tomb raider port i also thought if you could have 3d pokemon battles on it. Not amazing ones but i bet you could render two boxy pokemons on it. But minecraft is just blocks so it should work imo.

this is overhead view 2D with no scrolling, just a single page of water vs dirt squares that you can swap. if the character steps into water then you just see his head. thats about it. takes a minute to calculate that grid for no obvious reason. no height, just flat.

When you mean ‘like that’, are you talking about the skin resembling original hardware?
If so, the Pizza boy series of emulators are the most similar coming with skins out of the box, but you’ll have to pay for the feature.

You can also get similar skins for other emulators, but you’ll have to dig around on Reddit to find and them and fiddle with configs to get them applied properly.

i meant the all-in-one nature of it. ive used retroarch but honestly that ui is an exercise in patience.

i was wondering if there was an android version of that software, but I did some searching and came up short.

Oh, Lemuroid is exactly what you’re looking for!
23 consoles in one app, no config needed, just add ROMs and go.
