Yes I am aware that they're somehow supposed to reduce plastic waste because the cap can't get lost ... unless you cut it off, of course. Yes I am also aware that there are people with disabilities (shaky hands, weak grip, etc.) who are thankful for these and actually like the design. Good for them, and I mean that in a non-sarcastic way. But personally, I hate these things with all the "first world problems" rage I can muster and go out of my way to rip / cut / twist them off on every single bottle I buy. I don't like having the bottle cap directly in my face while drinking, or slipping in the way of the flow whenever I just want to pour milk, and on more than one occasion, I've actually cut my finger OR lip on these little sh*ts (not the same type as in the picture, but baldy-made longer "bands" that leave little plastic spikes on the cap and/or band). No idea whether I should post this in the "unpopular opinion" section instead or if other people think the same, but to me, "mildly infuriating" describes them perfectly.

I've just finished getting my laptop set up the way I like it, including maximising the RAM and upgrading the screen. I opened it up to use it, and the screws on the hinge tore through the plastic. To top it off, the plastic on the bottom of the laptop, the side that's been removed here, has also broken. My wife definitely didn't drop the laptop while she was tidying up though... EDIT: Apologies all, I'm having trouble with Lemmy today, and it's not letting me reply. I'll try to reply tomorrow, but in the meantime; It's a Stonebook branded Clevo n751BU, a 7th gen i5. It's held up respectably well until it appears to have been knocked in the corner where the hinge is. The plastics on both sides of the hinge have given out. I've ordered a replacement base, but the palm rest which is pictured is not available anywhere that I can find. I'm going to dismantle the hinge to clean and oil it, then reassemble it slightly less tightly, and epoxy the screws into place. The reason for taking it apart in the first place was to add a third hard drive. It has an nvme drive, and I had two HDDs going spare that can hold my documents and music. They're being synced now as I was having problems doing it remotely, but once they're in they can be managed with Syncthing. The laptop shouldn't need to come apart agin afterwards :) I've been building and repairing computers and laptops for about 30 years, so I'm comfortable with completely stripping it, and can use it as an excuse to give everything a clean again. Short of replacing these HDDs with SSDs, there's nothing else that can physically be upgraded, so I'm half tempted to glue it shut so that I don't get tempted again :D

Note I did not buy any food for myself. To head off questions: 1. No, I couldn't cook for her. I'm suffering from a long-term illness where I can't eat solid foods and am extremely smell sensitive. My wife is at a funeral, so I had to order food. 2. She's extremely picky and refused to let me order anything but pizza. 3. We live outside of town, in a not very big town, with very few pizza delivery options, and they're all at least this expensive. 4. No, I didn't also have to buy her the cheesy bread or the second topping or the sauces, but it's nice to get my daughter a treat and that is no excuse for the order being that expensive. 5. We're in Indiana, so this *should be* ludicrous in terms of pricing. This used to be the pricing I would expect when we lived in L.A. and ordered from a good local place rather than a chain. Edit: Turns out what I *should* have been infuriated about is people repeatedly telling me to get takeout and having to repeatedly explain why that wasn't an option, having people not believe I'm sick, and being repeatedly berated for not magically knowing food coupons exist on the internet when I never order food on the internet. Oh right, and also being a bad parent for not forcing food my daughter doesn't like down her throat or starving her if she won't eat it. By the way, I have another thing to be infuriated about. It's a bit surprising that Google still allows device certification with such ancient, unsupported and vulnerable OS. All the marketing materials don't say which CPU it's using except "Qualcomm octa core CPU" - that means nothing as the description could apply to the Snapdragon 415, which was a low end slow system on a chip released ten years ago. Maybe it could explain why they're using an ancient version of Android - the soc that they're using it's a leftover found in some warehouse and it's already unsupported by the manufacturer; they're forced to use android 11.

About 3 or 4 years ago PayPal added the option to buy cryptocurrency, which I thought I’d try. (Dumb idea 🙄) Part of the sign up process was glitched. I retried and clicked submit one too many times, I guess. Now I’ve been unable to use PayPal for years. They blocked me because THEIR SITE was broken, but the web page essentially accuses me of being a criminal and asks for my bank records. No way in hell. This was just for me to pay others. I can only imagine how awful PayPal is if you are a vendor. Fuck PayPal.

I expected ridiculous propaganda from Adobe, but they give absolutely no reasons why Photoshop is better than Gimp and list a bunch of things that Gimp can do too. Needed a replacement 700C front wheel for my commuter bike after the old aluminum rim exploded like a looney tunes cannon. It's hard enough to find the right size when there are 3 competing tire/rim sizing systems currently in use, it doesn't help when the people selling the wheels have no idea what the numbers mean either! All of these examples are from separate storefronts at the big online store. Ended up buying the wheel identical to mine from my local bicycle shop at the same price as online and with no shipping fee or delivery time. The 3 systems in use are the American customary inch fraction notation like ```26x1+3⁄4``` (which is NOT interchangeable with American customary inch *decimal* notation like ```26x1.75```), the French metric notation like ```650x45C```, and the ISO 5775 metric notation like ```47-571```. When I try to submit a post or comment containing the string [slash]etc[slash] passwd, the submit button goes into a loading state and spins indefinitely. The request is blocked by Cloudflare with status code 403. I can't even search for the forbidden string. You have to check dev tools to find out what went wrong, this error is not handled in the UI at all. So, if you've ever tried to reply to a tech issue and the UI just won't let you, maybe this is why.

What the heck Sticker Mule

In my view, this is unacceptable... They changed my background (previously there was a default blue window), placed an icon in the bottom corner of the screen that read "Learn more about this photo", and re-added the search bar that I had previously removed. Fortunately, I don't have to deal with this on a daily basis.

I grab a cup coffee from a shop and it's ruined because the barista is wearing cologne or perfume that inevitably has gotten on the cup and it's all I can smell when I take a sip. I guess 2 things, this means 1 they haven't thoroughly washed their hands, and 2 I can't drink the coffee because it smells so bad and I have to throw it out. Not sure why, but I haven't had this happen with any other type of food/drink, just coffee.

I would have expected them to ask me to message them, in order to resolve the issue of not having access to my old email. Instead, they assume that I still have access to it, by simply contacting my email provider! If I could do that, I wouldn't have lost access to it through would I?

So I was shopping with my wife today and I said "oh let's see if my membership helps out." So we went and added the same item to each of our carts, and to our surprise, the total was the same! So what is it exactly that I'm paying for in this membership if the items "original price" is higher for me than it is for regular shoppers?
