There has been some very loud opposition to this, but thankfully it’s a minority. Great to see that our constitutional right of not being discriminated against based on sex finally also applies to marriage as well.
By the way, shameless plug, we have a small Estonian community going at !eesti@lemm.ee - if anybody wants to chat about Estonia or with Estonians, then English posts are more than welcome as well 😃
Congrats! You can be proud of Estonia today.
The opposition was pretty loud and nasty in France when marriage equality was debated. The sky didn’t fall, and today some politician would prefer people forget they opposed it, and try to downplay their involvement when reminded of their opposition.
Thanks for sharing, subscribed.
Hästi tehtud! Ja tervitused Soomest
This is great news. People are correct when they say it too long, but even still I’m a lot happier to see news of things getting better rather than things getting worse.
Let‘s go Estonia! Big move!
This is awesome news, I’m always very happy to hear progressive news from countries that were once so tight with russia, gives me hope
The Baltic counties were never tight with Russia, they were occupied by the USSR.
I realize that I did not use the most appropriate word, what I meant is under their influence / occupation, sorry about that and thanks for correcting me
Wow, that took way to fucking long.
The biggest concern I have now is Russia declaring that this means Nazis have taken control and starting an invasion of Estonia.
Estonia is a NATO country and with how poorly Russia has been doing in Ukraine it would be a huge risk. Also I think Lithuania would be first, if they ever decide to re-take USSR territories, but again that would mean attacking NATO country.
Ah, good context to have, thanks!
