Sounds like another lawsuit. You can’t just cancel contracted funding that’s already been budgeted by Congress.

I was looking it up before…if CA stopped paying federal taxes and it all went to state, I think the books might balance. Not exactly saying CA should leave the union but if someone wants to threaten federal funds, CA should just not pay federal…

        That’s an interesting idea…

Congress has passed laws mandating that the money be spent on certain things.

Federal Administration refuses to spend the money that’s allocated, so the State Administration withholds that amount from the Federal taxes collected, and steps in to spend the moneyon those certain things instead, bypassing the middleman.

But of course our Federal taxes are paid directly to the Federal IRS, so there would be problems with that.

I know we pay federal taxes independently of state taxes. The point is if CA, that includes everyone in CA, stopped paying federal taxes and state taxes increased relatively so that everything that would normally go to the federal government would instead go to the state government, our books would be in the green or very near to it. Some states tend to receive more then they give, CA tends to give more then receive, thats fine, normally, the whole democratic socialism Lincoln fought for, but if the federal government, namely trump, wants to use federal funds to bully CA, CA should throw its monetary weight around.
