I’ve been playing BG3 since I was first able to find a torrent, using the fitgirl repack, and I think I’m going to buy this one. To play online of course, but also to support the devs for making a damn decent game.
Would really like not to lose my progress - think it’ll transfer without any problems?
They do. Also you can play the pirated version online, there’s no DRM. Good on you for buying it though, it’s the kind of game it’s good to support
Tbf I will pirate game to try it and if I like it I’ll pay for it.
I know why it doesn’t work as a business model but of its worth my money I’ll give it.
I did this with doom eternal. I remember it was a bit of a pain to go legit after but thankfully someone made a tool and instructions. I think I beat half the game first. Then I bought doom 2016 after that.
I what why they can’t bring back the old “shareware” style money where am initial segment or episode of a game is free so people can see what they like. For open world games maybe just have a limited portion of the map.
It’s a DRM-free game so I don’t see why not. When the pirated copy is literally the same file as the Steam copy it makes sense that it would work.
Just chiming in to say good on you for buying it
I don’t see why not, but If it doesn’t you can just pick up where you left off with the original install.
If they were smart they’ll make sure it does. I have done this before…tried a game by pirating, bought it, realized my save doesn’t work, refunded it, and just went back to playing the pirated copy. You could take that route too just make sure you’re buying on a platform that will allow you to refund no questions asked within a certain period
It depends on what version of the game the copy you acquired came from.
If it’s from the Early Access or any version of the game prior to the launch version, then no, your saves will not transfer. That is true of legit copies of the game as well. From Early Access to Launch, customers are required to delete their previous saves.
If it’s a modded copy, in that it includes modded stuff that isn’t available in the main game, such as changing values, skills, monsters, etc, then your save will most likely be broken at best or cause crashes at worse.
If it’s just a cracked version of the full release, then there probably won’t be anything stopping you from using the same save files, depending on where the cracked version stores its saves mind you.
“asking for a friend”
Probably. As far as I’m aware, cracks usually just alter the executable to prevent DRM and online checks. If you’re buying a copy on Steam, you can even copy the pirated files over to your Steam directory and do a verify files, and it should update without downloading the entire game again.
Test it. Give a copy of your saves to someone with a legit copy and see if they can load your save.
If its the full release then yes. Mine did without issues. They just picked right up.
Try it and if it doesnt work you can get a refund from steam or wherever you buy it as long as you dont play it for more than (i think) 5 hours
