The official FDA guidance says “adults 65 years of age and older and individuals 5 through 64 years who have at least one underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19.” The CDC maintains a list of those conditions, and it’s a long one. They include:
- BMI above 30
- Mental health conditions
- Physical inactivity
- Heart conditions
- Diabetes
- Disabilities (including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, cognitive impairment, and “limitations with self-care or activities of daily living”)
- Asthma
- Cancer
- Pregnancy and recent pregnancy
- Current and former smokers
- Neurologic conditions
- Chronic kidney, liver or lung disease
- HIV
It’s possible you’ll be asked to attest that you have one of those conditions. Willis noted that “California pharmacies don’t ask for medical documentation or a doctor’s prescription for people who self-attest.”

Physical inactivity got me covered. Lmao.
