Direct link to the Nintendo compatibility site: https://switch-software-compatibility.nintendo.com/en-US
This site is faster, but you could already get the same information from the game page in the eShop.
Also, it doesn’t solve the biggest problem I have right now trying to get compatibility information: Delisted games. They don’t show up in the eShop nor in this new site, so I can’t tell if they have issues or not.
They should really include info like frame rate on switch 2. I’m not getting anything locked to 30fps, and need to do googling before purchasing anything
Just tried searching for a Japan only game and it doesn’t show up.
The link is for the “en-US” region. At the bottom of the page however, there’s a link that says “Region Selector.” I clicked it and it brought me to a page listing other regions.
The link to the Japanese page is here: https://switch-software-compatibility.nintendo.com/ja-JP
I searched for 怒首領蜂 最大往生 and it showed up.
See familiar-loking kanji, confirm it’s Dodonpachi Saidaioujou.
Immediately upvote.
Wait, there are switch games that aren’t compatible with the switch 2? That seems extremely weird, backwards compatibility was the switch 2s whole deal. Ugh this platform…
Not many, but there are a few that have issues, it was around 1% or less, IIRC.
As for “why”, I am not a game dev and I don’t know about Xbox, but on Sony side, there are also a few PS4 games that have issue on PS5, and same happens with some games on old version of windows not working on new version, so it’s not a completely unheard of situation.
Different hardware. The Switch 2’s CPU and GPU are different to those of the Switch 1, so playing S1 games on S2 requires a compatibility layer. Tetsuya Sasaki says it’s lower-level than WINE, but not quite an emulator
Yeah, I recall reading about that. Thanks for sharing!
