The federal government in US literally has the power to disappear US citizens and ship them off to places like gitmo without any process. Not sure how anybody can pretend their powers are somehow limited. It boils down to the pros and cons of a centralized government. If its centralized, you can do things more efficiently (e.g Chinas inital handling of Covid amd vaccinating its population was great), but it has a lot more power over minority groups and what they can and cant do vs the U.S Federal System which has a limitwd set of powers
