Back in the old read it days, I would browse the local meetup subs to join events and small social outings locally - but since I’m not using that platform anymore I’m a bit lost on find about local social gatherings. I would attend r posting of bar hopping, cinema groups, and park picnics around my town; however, I can’t find a Lemming4Lemming (L4L) instances like there for my town through simple search. Anything like that here?
Any Lemmy folks want to meet up in Seoul, Korea, reply to this comment we can get some barbaque
Anything like that wouldn’t work out because the fedi is still way too small for that. You could also follow #town-name on Mastodon too.
Is there an opposite instance so I can avoid seeing Lemmy users in public?
I haven’t found anything like that on Lemmy. I recently got into meetup.com though.
Meetup requires payment even for non-commercial, small meetups though, it’s why there was an exodus a few years ago.
I wonder how much of that moved to Craigslist. I think you can post stuff like that there.
Exactly nothing here, because we don’t use that in Germany ;)
The group we used meetup for (small English-speaking meetings, literally just meeting with both Germans and foreigners speaking English) moved to Facebook, where it slowly died (partially because of FB, but Covid didn’t help).
Mobilizon is the Fediverse equivalent. https://joinmobilizon.org/
It’s not well used though.
This would be great to have, and I think the best way on Lemmy would be to look on your city/town’s community.
Search for that on https://lemmyverse.net, or check out an instance for your region on https://pangora.social/join (currently lists stuff for 15 countries/regions, for example https://lemmy.ca is the big one for Canada).
As for what it should be called, maybe
P4P
? r4r is reddit specific, whereas this would be something that you can extend to anyone and any platform. There are also location specific instances listed here: https://lemmy.world/post/1434929
