It’s worth noting this happened 6 years ago and both of the cops were fired.

Listening to the audio and reading transcripts is hilarious. These guys sound like a couple teenagers driving around discussing Pokemon, accidentally going the wrong way down a one-way street; the part where they ignore their superiors trying to contact them asking why they aren’t responding is the best part.

The question is, what has happened in the LAPD from this exact event occurring again? This amount of negligence and selfishness is absolutely still happening.

Hell, the fact that it took SIX YEARS to get this footage is damming all by itself. I want to be amused by the childish nature of this all, but goddamnit does the whole situation make me angry.

Murder is acceptable, but ignoring a robbery and driving recklessly to catch a Pokémon is what really gets cops fired.

On camera. It’s not the driving or pokemon catching, it’s the embarrassment and extra work they’ve caused their managers.

Murder is acceptable, ruining the Chief’s good mood is not.

Internal Affairs investigation report, which was called “Dishonesty.pdf.”

Also, lol at this detail from the article.

"All units report in, we’ve got a level 60 Galarian Zapdos raid at the corner of 10th and 8th, requesting immediate backup.

    Be advised, target is Shiny"

At least tell us if it was a Shiny. Come on man…don’t skimp on the details of this Togetic.

Shiny Togetic wasn’t available in the game at the time. (I had to look it up to be sure.)

Plus when someone gets a shiny, they aren’t quiet about it.

Pokemon can’t kick you in the nuts. I guess Nintendo removed it from the American version. /jk

So I watched the video and it sounds like they were also using a website to determine where Pokemon were appearing. Reading the Vice article the quote “and that they were only monitoring a tracking application to catch mythical creatures” appears.

I mention this both because I find it interesting. The phone app will show you Pokemon nearby, but if you’ve caught the Pokemon before you can only see in your immediate area (the immediate area is wider for rural areas, but hardly enough). They also seem to know exactly where each Pokemon who pops up is, with more accuracy than you would get from the phone app and likely further away from where they were.

And the second reason is that, while the video proves plenty, I assume they were using their car computer to check a Pokemon tracking website. I would bet the start of this investigation came from checking the logs on that device.
