Ubuntu has never been the distribution for someone who cares about the package manager. Ubuntu’s identity has always been to make a clean desktop that is user-friendly, with focus on new users.

If you have a strong opinion about deb or snap, you are probably not using Ubuntu.

With the recent change to Debian, a lot of people are probably going to switch from Ubuntu to Debian. Diversity isn’t a bad thing, and I don’t think it changes why Ubuntu has become successful, there are a lot of people who want the desktop experience that Ubuntu offers.
