I thought it was good
I’d be shocked if they hadn’t heard that before
Yeah, you can only hear the same electrician joke so many times before it doesn’t amp you up anymore.
Yeah, it sounds like her joke was met with a lot of resistance.
It’s not the transformative joke OP thinks it is.
It was met with a lot of resistance
If they resisted maybe you can transform their output?
Lemme thunk about that… ohmmmmm… no
Don’t be an imp, ye dunce.
That’s not possible, currently.
here’s a noob fediverse question, if that’s a Mastodon post, then why couldn’t it just be linked directly in Lemmy? I thought that was part of the point of the activitypub protocol.
Mastodon style posts are in a different format from the tree structured “Reddit style” posts. Kbin has support for them (they call it microblogs) but I don’t think Lemmy does.
Of course, you could link it with a normal direct link instead of a photo, but I don’t think that’s what you were referring to and screenshots have the advantage of having embedded support (I’m actually not sure if Mastodon links have a preview function here).
I think I understand 1/3 of all comments on here but I love it.
That’s the spirit. I was there a month ago.
You’d think that maybe it do work that way but it don’t
I think they’re saying the way Mastodon displays posts isn’t compatible with Lemmy’s interface.
On the flip side, you can easily post screenshots/images on Lemmy, so it makes it roundabout but easier at the same time.
They’re also saying there’s another website named Kbin that does/might support Mastodon posts.
gotcha - it’s really interesting the amount of potential for integration with all of these platforms, since it’s not like they care about losing users from a link - hopefully support is added! thanks!
I’m also interested in knowing more about this
Have you tried kbin?
I’m on Lemmy, Kbin, and Mastodon
This is the way
So there’s a couple of thoughts here, and I’ve only experimented a little bit.
You can post directly from your Mastodon account to a community by calling out the community by its address like @fediverse@lemmy.world in your post (toot) (don’t think anything will happen by me using it here). You’ll see the Mastodon post as a community style post in the community like this: https://lemmy.world/post/1222638
You can my click my mas.to profile and see some things in the Lemmy context - not my verified links, but things like my profile picture and background, bio, Cake day, sending me a message.
I don’t know how to interact with Mastodon users viaa Lemmy or Kbin. Like above if I reference my Mastodon user @hemmes@mas.to I don’t believe anything happens.
So OP’s only options are posting a snapshot or, my choice, he can add the Mastodon post link to his Lemmy community post (in the header not the body) and have the same results as any other web link - the Mastodon media would get a thumbnail in the community post listing, with maybe some relevant content preview, etc. While that will deliver a superior viewing experience, that’s not actually communicating with ActivityPub through the Fediverse, it’s simply a web link to the Mastodon instance server’s user’s post.
Edit: Okay, so it looks like mentioning my mas.to handle does indeed alert me (almost instantly in this case), that’s cool!
I don’t know the answer but kbin is the link between the two.
I don’t know for sure but I think activitypub is the link.
The literal one, yeah. I could have been more clear.
I mean lemmy federates with kbin.
Mastadon federates with kbin.
Kbin is a link between them in that sense. If you want the experience of both in one place kbin has the most compatibility.
Edit: for clarity all three federate with each other actually. Lemmy uses the activity pub tech for threaded forums style content, mastadon for microblogging, and kbin natively supports both threaded discussion and microblogging (à la tweeting).
Guess they’re not wired for puns. Time to switch the conversation to something light so you don’t run up the meter with their resistance.
A monk is overseeing a group of students meditating. He walks around the group for a few minutes and then pulls out a taser and electrocutes one of the students who has been particularly still and silent. The monk then addresses the students and says, “I expected more ohms!”
Thank you.
They seem like grounded people.
No spark in their relationship? No potential? Maybe there was tension.
Circuit breaker?? I hardly know ‘er!
On a series note, if they really amp things up and don’t meet too much resistance, they could splice their lives back together.
I guess they were just tired and needed to recharge.
Did they not get amped up?

I was so hoping the screenshots-of-text-content stuff would die with reddit. It’s crap for accessibility.
You have a great point. Next time I’ll try it your way.
Most decent of you, much appreciated!
Either laugh at your own joke. Mention it is a joke. Or keep punning until they get it. Especially as they’re not your acquaintances, they don’t know if you’re trying to be funny or an asshole.
They have probably heard it like 200 times and just want it over with
It’s because you have to follow it up with a loud dad chuckle and wait for the groans. It helps if you have a beer belly that jiggles when you laugh.
Also do an exaggerated wink, followed by wiggling both your eyebrows furiously.
If that doesn’t work, I’m afraid you’ll have to say “Geddit? POWER couple!” in the most obnoxiously jovial tone you can muster.
Maybe they didn’t hear you?
This must be the only explanation. Even if you’ve heard it 100 times, that joke is so good that it should force a smirk at minimum.
Screenshot of a Mastodon post posted to a Lemmy community feels kinda funny…shocking even
Lesley showing up on dadjokes? My worlds are colliding!
Right? Met them at S4!
That must have been an awkward silence 😬
