Gaming@beehaw.org•The Terribly Tragic, Totally Avoidable, Absolute Collapse Of The Gaming Industry
2·3 months agoTo be fair, a lot of movie theaters ban bringing in outside food. At least in my experience. I agree with just not eating though. It would certainly be healthier to decouple moviegoing from snacking.

1·5 months agoIn my case it was a music composition app (Xewton Music Studio) that used to have both Android and iOS versions, but then some other company bought them out and discontinued the Android version.

Technology@beehaw.org•Only 1 in 3 Euro consumers are trading in their old phones
1·5 months agoI still have my old phone since it has at least one paid app on it that was removed from the Play store. I can’t download the app I paid money for to my new phone, but I can still use the copy installed on my old phone.
Realizing this has completely dissuaded me from spending money on apps, but that’s a whole other thing…

To follow on from that: I wonder to what degree this is a deliberate effort to impoverish people. The more American citizens (Trump supporters or not) living in precarity, the more cheap unskilled labor will be available to replace deported migrant labor…

Politics@beehaw.org•Real paper ballots are a must: N.Y. needs to get rid of touchscreen voting machines
3·5 months agoI’m in one of the states that does all mail-in paper ballots. The idea of going to a centralized location to vote on an electronic touch screen ironically seems antiquated to me. Using a screen feels like barely a step away from the punch hole ballots my parents voted with when I was a kid.

Every single point of fact made in the declaration is not just paralleled, it is Mirrored with exactness.
I dunno about every single point, I feel like the “merciless Indian savages” bit was uncalled for…

Steam Controller is a flawed masterpiece that I wish we had gotten another iteration of.
Also, speaking of the 8bitdo Pro 2 line, the wired Xbox version of the Pro 2 is pretty great. It’s similar to the regular Pro 2, but it has analog triggers, uses Xinput, and has Xbox coloring and branding. It’s like they took the best parts of Xbox, SNES, and Playstation controllers and mushed them all together.
Thanks, I hadn’t heard about this until now and was able to grab a copy.

Politics@beehaw.org•Republicans block bill to protect contraception access as Democrats make election-year push
13·1 year ago“The Democrats are using their power to push an alarmist and false narrative that there is a problem accessing contraception,” said Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy, the top Republican on the Senate Health, Labor, Education and Pensions Committee.
If he really meant this, there’d be no problem passing a bill to protect contraception access. If there’s already no problem getting it, and you’re not intending to prevent people from getting it, a bill protecting access is at worst window dressing and harms no one.
I can only conclude they are intending to find further ways to prevent people from getting contraception, and don’t want this bill to get in their way.

Politics@beehaw.org•On trial off-day, Trump complains about jury selection process for his criminal case
1·2 years agoA lot of his base admires precisely those qualities you mentioned. They dig the idea of someone who appeals to their shared prejudices and wields power capriciously and cruelly. Either because they think he will wield that power on their behalf, or because they wish they could wield that kind of power themselves and are enjoying it vicariously by watching him do it.

World News@beehaw.org•Why are Americans so gloomy about their great economy?
8·2 years agoGas I do not use so I do not care.
I don’t own a car and don’t use gas either. But my food, clothes, toiletries, mail, and lots of other things I need all probably required gas in order to get to me. If you live in a city, especially a US city, chances are high that you rely on gasoline a great deal just to get food, even if it’s only indirectly.
Might be a UK thing. Here in the US I don’t think I’ve ever been to a theater that allowed any outside food or drink. I doubt it’s because of safety, I’m pretty sure it’s because it would cut into their profits from concession stand sales.
