Because I don’t know their situation, their life. I don’t have enough trust that I’ll just take someone at face value from a small subset. Don’t want to get jumped. Don’t want to get taken advantage of.

Good transit is always expensive. Where the money comes from can be hidden from the end users, but it is always expensive. If you only look at the fares it might seem that good transit is cheap, but that is just because the costs have been moved elsewhere - a political question that has nothing to do with transit.

At surface value, this seems true. Until you look at the city with the best train system on earth, Tokyo. There, the trains are cheap. The trains are fast, clean, on time. And all of it is without any external funding

I get that it’s short hand for that --but I still don’t think it’s good to push people forward to stores with so many moral and economic issues like walmart as the first suggestion.

A simple trucker’s radio is a common item in gas stations and truck stops–not that they’re necessarily better than walmart, but they’re just as common and weren’t put forth as a suggestion
