I use Kagi with the unlimited search paid version. Whether it’s my own needs, friends, family, etc, I always seem to be the one doing the searching for everyone I interact with. After years of Google feeding more and more sponsored links into the results I switched to DDG, and after about 6 months of finding their results lackluster I tried Kagi.
For me, it works. I don’t know that I’ll use it forever or anything but at the moment it does a better job of getting me reliable results within the first few sites and I can move on with my day. I just need quick, accurate search results. So far Kagi has been that.
I did the free trial thing a couple times to see how it worked before paying and I’d suggest that to anyone thinking about switching. Give it a week or two on trial accounts and if it sucks then it probably isn’t for you.

You must be the last person on Lemmy still looking at these sites the way they’re displayed by default. Firefox, adblock, no script, pi hole, etc makes all that go away pretty painlessly.
FrostyTrichs@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•The tyranny of the algorithm: why every coffee shop looks the sameEnglish6·1 year agoI’ve been to several coffee shops through the years that also had local artists that helped with the decor, and local musicians playing a couple days a week.
For whatever reason I’ve never really looked at a coffee shop as a bar/pub for daytime folks but I guess that’s what a lot of them kind of were.

FrostyTrichs@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I deleted all my post from my reddit account, can they still monetize them?0·2 years agoI’ve been meaning to ask this elsewhere but I guess I can piggyback off this post-
What tool(s) are available for deleting/removing your post history? I’ve seen mention that some didn’t delete their posts but had a bot or something replace the text in them with some text about leaving for Lemmy, and I’d like to do something like that myself.

Maybe Ukrainians should start wearing kippah so Congress gets confused and sends them money and weapons.

FrostyTrichs@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon lays off Alexa employees as 2010s voice-assistant boom gives way to AIEnglish0·2 years agoWhy the hell can’t we just have both? One of the biggest problems with smart speakers and voice assistants is that they’re so damn stupid so often. If A.I. were to become smart enough to be what the current assistants/speakers aren’t, surely that would drive device sales and engagement astronomically higher right?
FrostyTrichs@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Will the world ever stop being anti-intellectual?162·2 years agoMaybe an unpopular opinion but I think a lot of anti intellectual thinking is a combination of religious and corporate influence on the world.
Religion more or less teaches that you should believe what you’re told, not what you discover or learn for yourself. It’s a subtle but powerful way to discourage people from seeking the truths in life because they are genuinely convinced they’ve found the answer for everything.
Similarly with corporate influence so heavily a part of our lives people are quick to fall into the trap of consumerism. From a young age we are being conditioned to accept that it’s normal to have to pay multiple times for the same product and to replace our possessions regularly. The cost of living that way makes the time and expense of continuing education unattainable for the average person, which often leads to bitterness about their situation and anger towards those who are able to work a white collar job or live an easier life.
Both are problems without quickly enacted solutions. People have to be taught to think critically without being put off or angered when they get to topics that contradict what they want to believe.
FrostyTrichs@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Israeli leader warns of ‘long war’ as it faces unprecedented hostage crisis following Hamas attackEnglish246·2 years agoSame thoughts here.
Watching the world’s reaction to the Ukraine/Russia conflict compared to the Israel/Palestine conflict is equally baffling.
The world’s moral compass spins like a top. At what point can we just declare all these attacks and wars unjust and a waste of life and resources?
We have the technology and resources to make a utopia for all humanity but instead we spend our time and money coming up with new ways to kill each other and reasons to be hateful. It’s only going to get worse as the world shrinks from climate shift.
What a time to be alive. History will look back on us with disgust.
