Filling fees for an arbitrator may be higher than filing a case in court.
Which is why Valve is making the change. They were potentially paying a lot for these filings.

Steam is actually pretty decent, by company standards.
They aren’t doing this because they are decent. It’s because they were getting reamed on fees through people choosing the arbitration. I believe it was a law firm basically encouraging people to request arbitration because they would get paid every time a claim was submitted, regardless of the outcome.
Hard for me not to get excited about a new Monster Hunter.
Still have Rise/Sunbreak sitting on my backlog barely played, but I still hope this one turns out well.
Yeah, I get not wanting to get too hyped about games ahead of time, but it feels like these days people are online to look for the next game to get angry about.
Also most quests are just “talk to npc, use Batman Vision to follow a trail, kill enemy, return”
This applies to a lot of games, even Witcher 3.
But both are gambling.
Nah, they are not comparable in a meaningful way. Sure, at a high level, you can apply aspects of “gambling” to both examples. But the biggest and most important point is the ability to spend actual money for additional changes at “winning”.
People are against gaming because of some deep-seating fear of Random Number Generation by itself. They are against it because of how easy it is to lose money.
He actually responded to this on Twitter.

Two clear quotes from the tweet.
Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes.

I’m no fucking predator or pedophile.
What about it is a clone of Genshin Impact?
Go right ahead. If they actually manage to do it, that will be the end of my YouTube watching.
…
Except on extremely rare occasions.
I’m sorry, I just find it funny that you walked back the “I’m done with Youtube” claim in the very next sentence.
My kids will be excited. They love this game.
$60 for the first game is kind of a crazy price.
Technically it’s possible, but the article includes the transcript that Druckmann himself posted, so that would mean he is faking a transcript to call out Sony’s edits to what he said.
No, it just shows that we shouldn’t trust everything published by a company.
“Not trusting” is easy but not especially useful if no one is attempting to figure out the truth.
Without journalism (or just a third-party in general) providing perspectives and communication in some way, you are relying primarily on the information coming directly from the companies themselves.
In this case we see that Sony was willing to fabricate quotes about an interview.
I guess it’s good to show contempt for your audience…
I don’t know. There have been plenty of times I’ve wondered if people in gaming communities actual enjoy games at all, instead of just talking about how bad they are.
Maybe they are just tapping into that market?
That’s why my favorite book is Moby Dick. No froo-froo symbolism, just a good, simple tale about a man who hates an animal.
I’m going to provide a different reply than the others.
Yes, I would consider 8 years a long time to make a game like Helldivers 2.
But all that means is that a studio in a good position to make that type of game would likely be able to do it in a much shorter amount of time.
In this case, we have a studio that was, in hindsight, too small and trying to be too ambitious in the game they were trying to make. So, trying to grow a studio at the same time you are trying to build an overly ambitious piece of software is going to have multiplying affects on how long said project will take.
Ahh…I see where you got confused.
I was saying that people will run an ad-blocker, but also refuse to pay directly for content.
And then complain that nobody makes good content.
I’m saying that even when you buy expensive products, you still have ads.
Sure, but that’s not really related to the topic. “Why are there ads in the products I pay for?” is a different issue than "Why are there ads in the products I don’t pay for?
No Man’s Sky was much more lacking at release compared to how they sold the game. And they basically went radio silent for quite a long time.
I don’t see how the two situations are similar.
And No Man’s Sky isn’t that much better now anyways.
