That looks more like Ziploc or Gladware, not Tupperware.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft warns that China is winning AI race outside the westEnglish
2·7 hours agoHe needs to go there personally to break ground though.
Then you already know your answer to “are there any female dog companions in cartoons?”
You mentioned Blue’s Clues but you ignored the main character? Or do you not consider Blue as a “dog companion”?

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Judge blocks Colorado law requiring health warning on gas stoves. He says there is no evidence that gas stoves cause or contribute to health issuesEnglish
7·5 days agoNot entirely true: some people will change with smaller warnings, even just this news. Others require graphic warnings plastered on the front to change. More warnings, more impact.

Technology@lemmy.world•Bose open-sources its SoundTouch home theater smart speakers ahead of end-of-lifeEnglish
62·5 days agoWell, yeah. That’s what the spectrum is.
Low end: “you can see the source but can’t do anything with it” (questionable whether this counts as open source at all)
High end “do what you want, it’s literally yours” (public domain).
One can debate where the low boundary of “open source” is, or what makes one license more or less free than another, but the spectrum is the range of limitations.

243·6 days agoIt is a spectrum (MIT vs GPL vs APL for example) but this is outside that spectrum.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Disabling middle click paste by default makes sense for distros aimed at new users.
1·6 days agoI think pasting directly into “search and go” if you middle click in a browser is certifiably insane.
Maybe acceptable as “paste and go” if it recognizes the clipboard contents as a valid URL.

3·7 days agoThat’s not a problem with middle click paste, that’s a problem with Firefox. If you hit ctrl+v in Firefox does it search for whatever is in your clipboard? No, so why should it do that when you paste by mouse click?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Disabling middle click paste by default makes sense for distros aimed at new users.
54·7 days agoNo it doesn’t, because middle-click paste doesn’t interfere with any other function. There’s no downside to having it.

9·7 days agoDon’t have to worry about that, win11 isn’t reliable enough for that.
We had a similar situation for a voicemail system though.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The whole "toilet seat up, toilet seat down" gender debate could be solved by everybody putting the seat and lid down.
1·11 days agoI’m much more interested in the conclusions and the meaning of the numbers, for two big reasons:
- It doesn’t matter much if the reduction is 90%, if the remaining 10% is still enough to be a problem. It sounds like a lot, but I have some doubts that it actually makes much difference.
- I care a lot more about locations outside the toilet than the specific locations in and on the toilet. The toilet is assumed to be contaminated regardless, the question is whether or how much it is contaminating the rest of the room.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The whole "toilet seat up, toilet seat down" gender debate could be solved by everybody putting the seat and lid down.
1·11 days agoThe floor and the walls of the restroom were contaminated after toilet flushing, but no significant differences were observed between the contamination occurring with lid position up or down. Wall contamination was minimal, regardless of lid position, and there was no significant difference in contamination level between the surfaces assessed, but data indicated that the trajectory of the aerosol plume contamination may have changed. Floor contamination was not found to be reduced consistently by toilet lid closure prior to flushing. […] it appears that closure of the toilet lid is not effective in reducing the contamination of the toilet seat area or contamination of other areas (fomites, floors, walls) within the restroom.

I refuse to accept that. Especially for these semi-disposable containers.
