That’s a great way of putting it. Any advice on getting started with RSS feeds? I get how they work but do you have like an RSS feed app that you input the urls into and you get a notification or something?

Don’t feel bad, to each their own. It’s not everybody’s thing and I get that.
I was too young to really know Howard Stern so never I don’t really know him. It comes in waves for me, sometimes if I’m stressed at work I just want to listen to some stupid jackassery on my way home. Then other times I want to learn more or have a more thoughtful podcast.
All of the Rogan comedy circle ones, JRE, Your Mom’s house, Two bears One Cave, This past weekend.
Lex Friedman Podcast is great when I’m in a deep think kind of mood.
I found a niche little historical podcast on the American frontier called Furs and Frontiers
Lore and Cabinate of curiosity are always great to fall back in to for a bit.
Exactly! It’s like I didn’t realize how much I was itching for the next blue link until it wasn’t readily available. It really helped out things in perspective for me.
Yeah, that happens. As more mod tools come out I’m sure that will get better with time.
I work in IT and reddit is (and will probably remain) a huge resource for my job. So I don’t think that’s going anywhere any time soon. Not using them as my main “feed” is a huge boon though.
I agree, when you just want that escape it can be a bit of a doldrum of content. The meta stuff is a bit annoying now too but I’m hoping that will pass once the reddit refugees (like myself) settle in and start to find their Lemmy voice.
Yeah, content is lacking. I haven’t tried telegram but my fear is that it will be the same issues reddit had for me. Too much content so I just sat there all day sucking from the content teat. The conteat if you will.
Yeah, it feels like having a much smaller community harkens back to earlier internet days. I remember spending hours on the world of warcraft off topic forum back in the day. Always had great conversations and met some awesome interesting people.
Yeah doomscrolling started to be a real problem for me. I am a new(ish) father, so scrolling through /r/all was starting to give me some serious dread every day. I realized if I just scrolled through my subscribed subs and made sure there was nothing political there, my mental health went waaaaay way up. Like night and day difference, I became a much different (and better) person to be around.
Yeah that is always a shame. There are a few communities that I am missing still as well.
I think that’s the feeling that I don’t miss. It was like with reddit I could always get that fix. There was plenty of blue links left to satiate my dopamine drip. With Lemmy, the content is a lot less so I don’t feel the need to just scroll and scroll. I hope on, get my kick, hit the end for that day, then go back to doing stuff IRL.
Yeah, I think that will settle with time. It’s fresh on everyone’s minds right now. As Lemmy continues it will become more of its own thing.
If avoiding the ant-ageddon is your main goal, pick them and give them away. Free plums sign like others have said? Idk if I’d expect someone to pick them though, I’d pick them and bag them myself.
If it’s like what do you DO with a million plums after they’re picked, I’m plum out of ideas besides give them away. The jam and wine suggestions sounds interesting. Plum pudding mayhaps?
I live in rural Pennsylvania, which is a very red area. There are hundreds of people I interact with on a daily basis in my local community that are MAGA supporters, and yet are totally normal individuals who happen to have conversative views, so they joined the cult that matches their ideology.
How are we supposed to heal as a nation if we blanket statement say “MAGAs are idiots”? Are some psychopaths being duped in to trump thumping? Sure. But to lump them all in to this crazies category is dangerous, immature, and is low rung political discussion that plagues Reddit and I think Lemmy should be better than that.
Buying some type of investment property was my first idea too, but this raises a good point. If the original question was that you had one hour for the funds to actually clear before they are taken away then I don’t think buying a house would be an option.
I disagree. A lot of people are getting caught up in the MAGA cult that are just looking for a team that speaks to their ideals (generally more conservative). Calling them dumb by choice and not trying to understand their underlying reasons for subscribing to this particular ideology is really harmful at a societal level.
I had posted this a few days before the reddit API change, it was a lot slower then. I kinda miss it TBH…
