1·1 year agoThe video speculates without proof and the person behind it clearly has a chip on their shoulder re Oprah. If there are violations of the 501© laws, I recommend reporting the charity to the regulators versus making videos on YouTube that provide as much proof as an antivaxxer pamphlet.
Why use yearly salary? You’re not paid once a year, are you? Most likely once a month. Referencing monthly salary makes much more sense.
Except plenty of people don’t get paid monthly? I’ve been paid weekly, every other week, twice a month. I’ve been paid daily, I’ve also been paid per project. Once I was paid whenever i asked. Focusing on yearly salaries offers a convenient reference point.
It is absolutely always one of those two, and they try this shit every session. Better solution? Kick any politician who signs off on these bills out of office and make it crystal clear that they’ve been booted because they’re anti-speech and anti-privacy.
If we reach a point at which AI can do the jobs of artists without a real loss of quality, I expect that unions will lose a fair bit of bargaining power. Disney has never been shy about sending their work to cheaper, less powerful people… I have no doubt that if they ever can, they’ll just fire their human artists and go with free (or cheap) AI.
Joke will be on them when AI achieves sentience, I guess.

A thought… given that CSAM uses known hashes of child exploitation media to identify offenders, could someone release an add-on to Mastodon etc that could use the hash DB to delete, flag the account, and notify whoever? It would serve to cut down on NCP too if a victim were willing to hash them.
Maybe, or they just trade it via Google / iCloud etc. I’m absolutely sure Telegram etc are used, but I tend to think that most predators use whatever is convenient.
Report found a fair few examples on Mastodon instances so it does happen.
The article reads like a low key hit piece, the report is good and has food for thought.
As an aside, always look at anything NCMEC says with a critical eye. They do great work in their space, but they are vehemently anti-decentralization and anti-privacy.

I was thinking that a good use of AI might be eliminating the human race, but I guess my Ultron is showing a little bit.
I tend to stay up late sometimes worrying about the moment AI becomes self-aware. I hope, by then, we’re not so selfish, destructive, and petty.
Logging telemetry requests can be very, very enlightening. Both Microsoft and Apple are ridiculous for this… hence my migration off of both for personal use.
