A NAS is just a small desktop computer. If you have a motherboard/CPU/ram/Ethernet/case and a lot of SSDs/HDDs you are good to go.
Just don’t bother to buy something marketed as NAS. It’s expensive and less modular than any desktop PC.

What do you mean by showstopper? I only encode my shows into AV1/opus and I never had any transcoding happening on any of my devices.
It’s well supported on any recent Browser compared to x264/x265… specially 10bit encodes. And software decoding is nearly present on any recent device.
Dunno about 4k though, I haven’t the necessary screen resolution to play any 4k content… But for 1080p, AV1 is the way to go IMO.
It has it’s own quirks for sure (like every codec) but it’s far from a bad codec. I’m not a specialist on the subject but after a few months of testing/comparing/encoding… I settled with AV1 because it was comparative better than x264/x265.
Yeah ffmpeg is powerful but far from easy to master and get It right when working with encoding.

Maybe give micro a shot :) It’s nano but more sane defaults and comes with customization in mind.
FFMpeg Simple and underrated? Not sure about that.
Nothing fancy but I found an old RPI3 and want to selfhost Vaultwarden and piped on that thing to give my parents a way to watch YouTube without those nasty ads and give them a proper and easy way to store their password. (Over wireguard tunnel)
Also If the universe aligns buy a N100 or 200? To host my own router/switch setup and finally take advantage of my 5Gbit fiber 🫤. I still need to figure out how I get WiFi AP to work with a N100…

I do agree on Trigun, but only the original run. I’m not all against reboots but TRIGUN STAMPEDE was a let down and the CGI graphics where awful and disturbing assfuck. But that’s just a personal taste I heard a lot of people liked it :)
Just out of curiosity, do bash script work in zsh? Or are they totally different things and are not cross compatible?
EndeavourOS is great ! While it’s easier to install than Arch (I guess?) and give you tools to maintain your system, it’s still in need of daily maintenance to keep your system healthy and operational.
You learn things but at slower pace and with less headache as a beginner. I’m very thankful EOS exists and give you a glimpse on how to configure/maintain and evolve with the Arch ecosystem !

Going in the Nomads sector to drop their weapon or looking for a hidden ship wreck in a meteor cloud or just chilling in the empty/cold space and blasting pirates you encounter.
The single player story was very enjoyable and was not that bad for the time. Makes me sad it’s in the hands of Microsoft’s cold case :(.

Yeaaah I tried the last one, while It comes close and was fun to play, I missed the free universe roaming even if it was mostly empty (like the real deal xD).
I’m not exactly expecting a sequel, but something in the Freelancer universe. Best spaceflight-ship-action combat game ever made, but never got the love it deserves… Even the story was good and entertaining.
Today all X3 spaceflight-ship are either a pain in the ass where you have to be an engineer to even get started, or need to grind 1000 hours to even begin to have “fun”. I miss freelancer’s simplicity and space fights…

The woman’s voice on the podcast was very AI’ish… I mean, the way she spoke, the wording… I know this is mostly marketing shit speaking, but that was the first thing that poped up into my mind when I heard her.
How so? From my perspective I’m just saying that yes Microsoft probably doesn’t need to implemement such measure, however does that mean that they don’t?
But that’s always a take people won’t argue on because… It’s Microsoft, why would they do that? But why not?
That’s people hiding behind the benefit of the doubt giving Microsoft a positive opinion given in the absence of full evidence.
