  • I kind of hate most media’s use of the word “primitive” - particularly when it comes to our ancestors. It’s like, okay reporter let’s see YOU try and repair someone’s shattered jaw with stuff you find in the forest. Let’s see you try and build a fish trap so that you can feed yourself and your family. Let’s see anyone eke out a living harvesting plants that may or may not kill you.

Nothing about what any of our ancestors did was primitive. What they did to survive was incredibly sophisticated and separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom that can barely operate beyond eating and fucking. The use of “primitive” gives an air of superiority from someone whose greatest challenge in life is deciding on their latest Uber delivery food order while they lay on the couch scratching their ass.

I agree. We’re not the first ones to point it out, but theres a strong argument to be made for graphical style over graphical fidelity. Working to achieve a particular stylised choice tends to give a visual medium greater longevity.

There’s a reason why people remember details about Jurassic Park over something like Avatar; or Star Fox over the latest Call of Duty.

Technology has made some things look better over the years, but the things that really get remembered visually are the style choices.

Just because one game takes up a quarter of your hard drive doesn’t make it more impressive than a sub 1 GB game.

  • Yes, you’re right everything can cause serious harm or kill, but certain things are designed to harm or kill, or designed to look like something that could harm or kill.

Context is a big factor here. A person holding a 6 inch knife in a kitchen? No one is going to bat an eye. They’re probably using that knife to prep vegetables. Same knife, same person but they are walking around a market/playground/movie theatre? Suddenly it’s a very different situation and context.

Is that stranger with the knife safe? I don’t know, but I do know that I don’t have anything to defend myself aside from what is around me if they ARE NOT a safe person.

  • “Text message”? What are we - barbarians?

Seriously though, using text messages these days means that inevitably you will encounter the green vs blue issue. Android and Apple phones don’t play nice with their text messages. Gods help you if you ever get into a group text message thread with multiple Android and Apple phones. Anytime an Apple user reacts to a message it’s sent as a separate text message, “John 🤣 to ‘Check out this meme’”

At least with WhatsApp it puts everyone in the same texting playground.
