Video chat? Wtf. Have people ever heard of coffee? Very public, fairly short, no commitment. You can even say the no commitment part up front. Just meet, don’t expect anything, and see how it goes.

You’re more likely to believe things that are true instead of making up your own facts. What’s more creative than an ice wall keeping the oceans in?
For home stuff, look for the tech “Matter over Thread”. They’re protocols* designed to allow your stuff to work with any ecosystem, including local.
It’s been slow to roll out, largely, imo, because companies would prefer to lock people into their own ecosystems and apps. Apple, Google, and Samsung do have some motivations to be interoperable though, and Matter/Thread is that effort. Consider looking at Home Assistant if you want to know more about this ecosystem and local, open control.
I could go into more detail, but this is already a tangent.
Because Putin wants Russia to be the geopolitical superpower it was in 1960. It’s a hell of a lot easier to tear the rest of the world down than it is to build up Russia.
That’s part of why he’s so eager for war. The last big shakeup of the global order was WWII. He doesn’t have the patience to accomplish geopolitical power closer to the way China is, by slowly building up their economy over decades.
And he’s right that a bunch of people dying often helps the economy. The black plage was 1350, followed by the Renaissance around 1400-1600. We’re familiar enough with post WWII.
But that’s the dumb and evil way to grant power to labor. You can create more demand for labor without literally killing half your laborers. And it turns out having a real, healthy middle class is great for the economy.
Personally, I believe you could accomplish a similar effect by having a ridiculously high minimum wage and mandating a maximum of 32 hour work weeks. Seems like it might be worth experimenting with when the alternative “fix” is to kill half your people.
Guys, rail against the things that are true. There are enough of them that we don’t need to exaggerate or make up new ones.
Regardless of what you think of Tesla, “recall” here doesn’t mean what people expect it to mean.
It doesn’t matter how smart you (think you) are if you’re not educated. It’s possible to educate yourself, but unlikely for the vast majority of people. If you were a smart slacker, you wouldn’t be one of those teaching yourself “boring” topics, whether that’s trigonometry or history. You could barely motivate yourself to open your mouth while being spoon fed.
It has different messages if you hold it upside down.
But stated politically.
He’s not my first choice, but if the choice is Trump, Vance, or Johnson, I’d choose Vance.
I doubt this will compare to four years ago. It’s going to be much worse.
I’m hoping he keels over in the next month and we get President Vance. I know three things about him.
He’s really condescending towards people who didn’t “escape” rural areas (from his book).
He’s close with Peter Thiel.
He doesn’t believe anything political he says. He previously said Trump is a dictator. He says what he needs to say to gain power.
There’s a non-zero chance that he’s full of shit, and then turns out to be a great president. Either way, an unknown quantity is better than the one we’re about to get. Hopefully it happens before the appointments, since the appointments can’t be worse. Trump is what, 78?
If something is irredeemable, it’s not the government, it’s the voters.
All of this could be fixed if just enough people understood the truth.
I think it was mostly that Mastodon wouldn’t send referer headers.
So when people look at where their traffic comes from, 50% would be unknown, 20% would be Twitter, 10% would be Bluesky, and most importantly, Mastodon would never show on that report.
(Numbers made up and inaccurate.)
I would still be very careful about when and where and how you say it. Quoting the state constitution at the right time should certainly give you more leeway than other states, but I wouldn’t risk saying it too early.
It’s best to just treat it as not allowed, at least until deliberation. Maybe even then.

You’ll need it if you’re planning to go to college or become a CEO.
Get on a jury, say exactly that, and see what happens.
You have to be very particular if you’re going to do that.
Jury nullification is not allowed. Voting not guilty because you have reasonable doubt is always allowed. You don’t have to explain why you have reasonable doubt.
The fact that those happen to be jury nullification is unfortunate for those who would like to disallow it.
If you say “nullification”, you can likely be removed from the jury. If you say you believe they did it, but you’re going to vote not guilty anyway, you might be removed. If you just insist you have reasonable doubt, and insist that decision is yours to make, you can’t be removed.
Lemmy came through (below). Things are getting better here. I feel like we’re reaching critical mass, if only we could stop the infighting.
If it’s confirmed, I don’t see why not. Depends on the community, of course. I’m sure !lemmybewholesome would remove it.
That’s just being anti-social, usually from anxiety. If it’s something you’d like to change, it’s probably worth seeing a professional therapist.
