I appreciate the discourse, my only intent with my comment was to give a perspective as to how operationally safe it is. That is not to say I would be alright with being in the Reactor Compartment while it was operational, that would lead to certain and painful death.
I haven’t really considered the relative environmental impact of the extraction, refinement, removal, and waste management of nuclear fuel and how that compares to other alternatives like coal or gas. I would suspect that carbon emissions from that process are significantly more.
I would however expect that the environmental impact is significantly less for the other items on your list like transportation and more specifically operation.
You do seem to be pretty aware of the state of energy research, do you happen to have any recommended papers to take a look at that might shed some light on the overall environmental impacts of nuclear and how they compare to the current alternatives?
When I was on nuclear submarines I got less radiation than a single flight on an aircraft. And you gotta know there were less-than-secret competitions on who could rack up the most mrem. Could never get close to significant.
ITT: people saying “linux”
that joke aside, thanks for sharing this. i’ll use it next time i do a clean install on my gaming rig
the other day we had people on here saying that AI CEOs are going to be great
i still blame everything on obama, especially if he had no part in it at all.
i burned my toast… thanks obama
i am having some interesting modem issues. upgraded from the 14 pro to the 15 pro, i was running ios 17 since the update last monday and didn’t notice anything odd. that being said my 15 pro connection is pretty solid on wifi, so i would normally say you should just wait it out for an update but in this case, assuming you are already running iOS 17.0.2. i would text apple support/visit a store to see if you can get a replacement.
saw a vid with drop tests and then end result was that due to the curved glass, there are more instances where a corner drop lands on glass instead of rail. you slap literally any case on it and it should be fine for regular drops. that being said i always go with monthly AC+ and theft insurance, because i don’t want to be bothered having to worry about it. just walk into the store, show them the screen and they take care of it.
that’s awesome thanks for sharing! i just updated my shortcuts to be immediate as well.
lol I just found out that I can block users
lol careful. you thought a CEO was heartless, just wait until we put an AI in charge with the ‘goal’ set as profit.
i would suspect that the increase in affordable autonomous vehicles by forgoeing LIDAR would result in a net increase in lives saved due to more people able to afford autonomous driving. but we’ll never know for sure
i hear: #FuckAffordableEVs
this story makes it sound like this guy is trying to reduce the deaths at least a little
every technology add reduces affordability. the key is to strike the balance between cost and capability.
as ‘safe as possible’ would be provide a car with 6 inches of wrapped armor with it’s own driver service where they pay someone to sit in the car 24/7, and that’s ridiculous. hell, that wouldn’t even save you from the cheapest missile, we’re a long way from ‘as safe as possible’
ITT: people wishing death on others
That… was not what I expected to follow that chain of words.
