Do you think he understands everyone else’s though processes? Presumably if you were surrounded by guys like him then you would be able to comprehend the way they think.

This reminds me of that quote
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
Now imagine it’s your children too.
Very true. And we have to remember that our own views are informed by years of study/observation in areas other people will not have paid any attention to. So often it would take a book worth of real life examples to give someone the same background experience, and they would have to read that book carefully over many months for those examples to sink in, and still then they might think those are cherry-picked examples, whereas you came across them organically.

2·1 month agoThis post wasn’t about recommendations, just information that people should know. Make your own decisions based on your own assessment of the risks and likely returns associated with each option. I’d say precious metals in your physical possession are a simple option with low risk but that’s my opinion.

2·1 month agoBetter to stash precious metals since they won’t lose their value. Of course there are other options so make your own decisions based on your own assessment of the various risks involved.

13·2 months agoI’m only speaking from what I have read. Apparently it is perfectly fine to run engines on biodiesel from using cooking oil or diesel from used motor oil as long as you have a good filtering process using a centrifuge. And I’m not saying that everyone will be able to save or make money this way, just that it’s something one could explore and at least limit the amount of tax they give to a corrupt government.

11·2 months agoMy understanding is that the vast majority of US subsidies in this area are for production rather than consumption subsidies aimed at reducing the price (only $44 billion out of $760 billion). The US is also on the lower end of fossil fuel subsidies compared to other countries at $28.16 per person in 2021, which seems considerably less than how much each person would have paid in fuel taxes that year.

15·2 months agoLike I said, follow the instructions. That includes removing impurities if you’re working with used cooking oil. If it’s unused then that simplifies things.
Doing it at scale may not be economical because of taxes as well as the fact you either need to buy expensive vegetable oil or collect large amounts of used oil from disparate places. For personal use the taxes are avoided and you may be able to get sufficient used oil from a couple of restaurants or neighbors.

I know what you mean. But it doesn’t have to be that way if enough people walk away and decide to do something positive instead.
