Technology@lemmy.world•Everyone Is Cheating Their Way Through CollegeEnglish
1·6 months agoYou’re advocating for quantity over quality. You will easily find situations where students don’t learn in small groups because the professor lecturing that group isn’t a good professor.

2·6 months agoIt costs $8k without insurance or with a high-deductible plan. Marketed hospital prices are not the same as what patients pay. Yes, a lot will pay around the $8k, but a lot more will pay a few hundred dollars.
I’m not saying the US has affordable health care, but if you’re going to criticize something, you have to keep the nuance.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some FOSS programs that are objectively better than their proprietary counterparts?
3·7 months agoResilio hasn’t been issue-free for my use case, but it hasn’t been destructive like Syncthing has. I thought the Syncthing stuff was just me, but I’ve seen similar accounts from some people online.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some FOSS programs that are objectively better than their proprietary counterparts?
1·7 months agoHard disagree. I’ve had so many issues with Syncthing deleting files and refusing to connect over LAN that I’ve never had with Resilio Sync.
This is such an awful idea as it stops us from buying international packages from anywhere. The ‘loophole’ is already closed for China.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•As a US citizen who was born in the UK, how risky is it to leave and reenter the US right now?
1·7 months agoI’d probably consult a lawyer.
They can’t (legally) deny you entry into the US, but they might make your life hell when re-entering. Bring a burner phone with you in case they take your phone. Don’t keep anything even remotely political saved on there.

2·8 months agoYou act like Americans weren’t screaming at other Americans saying that this would be the exact outcome. You also act like Americans weren’t yelling at other Americans about guns, imperialism, climate, and so much more of the country’s vices. And lastly, you act like Americans don’t get punished years down the line after their leaders make the most brain-dead decisions imaginable.

1·8 months agoRepos wouldn’t include the keys, but they’d include instructions on how to obtain them. Those instructions (according to Nintendo’s legal team) are enough to say that Yuzu violates the DMCA.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why isn't free stuff (public domain/noncommercial) discussed as much as paid stuff?
111·9 months agoOftentimes (but not always), free stuff has a lower budget and lower amounts of effort put into it by fewer people. This often results in a worse product.
