Thanks. We gave him ten good years. He was found alone in the woods, only 10 weeks old. He was so thin and had Giardia. We got him cured but he needed a special diet his entire life, was often at the vet, which couldn’t do anything really. In the end, we needed to get him euthenazied. My first cat, first pet and I didn’t imagine I would care so much for a little creature.

He was the kind of cat that would sleep on your chest, he could play fetch, and he would come to the door when I was on my way out, and demanded to either be picked up or get me down on a knee (even though there were others at home) so he could do this weird and very cute thing where we kind of chewed on my nose while purring insanely.

1·3 days agoI’m still quite new to Lemmy. I still don’t quite get how it all works, haha. I’m using the Thunder app (don’t ask me why), and when I go to settings it’s the second option I’m presented with. Then you just add keywords for the things you’d like to filter out.

Also, my dad can beat up your dad, or something like that.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come there isnt really any OTC allergy meds for stuffy nose?
2·3 days agoFexofenadine is also by far the best I’ve used for my allergies. I have no side effects from them, no sleepiness and they work in 20 min. I use the 120mg variant.

2·3 days agoOur cat is as dangerous and brave as Toulouse and also never grew bigger than kitten size.

She’s have always been an indoor cat. We don’t believe she would last long outside on her own, with her two functioning brain cells.

5·3 days agoOur cat is not much into catching mice. We once lived in an allotment house, which is mostly a shed. We once had a mouse in our bedroom, and we had to wake up the cat. We placed her near the mouse, so she could see it. She just lied down and continued to sleep.

6·3 days agoThanks! And thank you for a civil discussion. I will at some point look it up. If you have some resources you could recommend, that would be nice. I guess there a lot of good but also bad readings on the subject out there.
I’ve volunteered a lot before I got kids, where I was mentoring children of refugees. But having two kids under the age of 5 is a full time job beside my full time job, so currently there’s not many hours left of the day to do volunteering.
But I do still try to do small things here and there to improve the world around me.

51·3 days agoI believe not reading news is what got us here. Too many have given up and don’t take a stance, which allows the situation to just get worse and worse.
But, I also stopped reading news. I stopped the day Trump won the election. The world is a shit show and I won’t allow my mood to get dragged down every day. I have a family and kids and I want them to have a good life and a fun dad to be around.
If things like what happens with the ICE raids are happening, the Epstein files, dictatorship suddenly threatens everything I’m not burying my head in the sand, but I want to dose the amount of news I consume.

181·3 days agoI definitely get that! And it is definitely an issue. Personally, I feel like the state of the world is constantly knocking on my door. It’s almost claustrophobic. I vote for parties and politicians I believe in, I try to avoid supporting the ones who try to fuck up our world by not using their products or buy them.
But besides that, I not sure what else I can do, and I’m definitely up for suggestions.

There must be positive things to talk about, and not just the enshittification of everything and the end of the world.

987·3 days agoI have a filter on
- Trump
- Musk
- ICE
- Vance
- [Ai] slop
- Microsoft
- Grok
My All Feed is basically empty now or consists of posts with zero or very few comments. I love the filter option, but it has also made it quite clear what is being pushed the most on Lemmy.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What to look for in building/buying a server?English
5·12 days agoI have nothing to compare to, but I recently bought a Dell OptiPlex 9020 for $15/£13. It works wonders. I run a handful docker containers and a VM and haven’t experienced any issue since I bought it. It’s my first time experimenting with a home lab setup.
But still, wouldn’t renewable assets suppliers have an incentive to install assets in these areas? If the spot price is high and they can produce “free” electricity, their earnings are a lot higher than the fossil fuel plants.

I wonder if your brain then starts to align how you hear your own voice and how you hear it when it’s recorded. If it starts to sound more the same for you.
Would also be really weird if you for a long period only heard recordings of you speaking, and when you start speak again, you get equally, or probably more, freaked out by your own voice, as when your hear it recorded.
