Xuderis@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I don't understand referring to sex as "screwing"11·2 months agoScrew is slang for copulate and dates from the late 18th century and, from about the same time, also meant a prostitute, hence ‘screw you’ is often used as a euphemism for "fuck you’. Screw, as in a prison guard, is slang from the early 19th century and derives from earlier slang, ‘screws’, from the late 18th century, which were the keys that the guards carried. Screw as in money or wages, as in being ‘on a good screw’ is slang from the late 19th century. Screw, as in to swindle or cheat someone out of money, also dates from the late 19th century.

Xuderis@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The extremely rich would rather not have another Einstein unless they knew they could control them and it wouldn't hurt the bottom line.7·3 months agoHe believed that the Earth had “fluid electrical charges” running beneath its surface, that when interrupted by a series of electrical discharges at repeated set intervals, would generate a limitless power supply by generating immense low-frequency electrical waves.
In recent experiments I have discovered two novel facts of importance in this connection. One of these facts is that an electric current is generated in a wire extending from the ground to a great height by the axial and probably also by the translatory, movement of the earth. No appreciable current, however, will flow continuously in the wire unless the electricity is allowed to leak out into the air. Its escape is greatly facilitated by providing at the elevated end of the wire a conducting terminal of great surface, with many sharp edges or points. We are thus enabled to get a continuous supply of electrical energy by merely supporting a wire at a great height, but, unfortunately, the amount of electricity which can be so obtained is small.

Xuderis@lemmy.worldtoUnited States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Trump 2.0 is exposing American exceptionalism for what it is – and has always been46·3 months agoBernie isn’t supporting the establishment. He’s voted against democrats when they’re wrong or not pushing for enough.
He is against sending aid to Israel.
He authored a bill for Medicare for all.
His voting record is not available (or at least, it isn’t loading for me) or I would give you more examples: https://www.sanders.senate.gov/issues/legislation/voting_record/
I’m doing a lot of the heavy lifting for you here. You still have not provided a source of any kind indicating that Bernie is for the establishment.
Xuderis@lemmy.worldtoUnited States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Trump 2.0 is exposing American exceptionalism for what it is – and has always been54·3 months agoYou’re suggesting that Bernie not support Biden, the sitting president, for a second term when Biden himself stated that he was staying in the running.
Here’s a comprehensive list of everything the Biden administration accomplished: https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/fact-sheet-the-biden-harris-administration-record
Pelosi also hasn’t advocated for the best ideals. We don’t need a moderate, or someone who “reaches across the isle”. We need strong leaders who push for meaningful change for the American people.
Xuderis@lemmy.worldtoUnited States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Trump 2.0 is exposing American exceptionalism for what it is – and has always been42·3 months agoThe article mentions “democrats”, but Bernie is not mentioned specifically. I’m assuming you have a source?
Xuderis@lemmy.worldtoUnited States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Trump 2.0 is exposing American exceptionalism for what it is – and has always been43·3 months agoHe is a force for good and doing what he can and should. I’m relying on people, everyone really, to do their part. I’m relying on you. Take things one day at a time. If you need a break from politics, take one. But do not give up. Do not cow to your oppressors.
Xuderis@lemmy.worldtoUnited States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Trump 2.0 is exposing American exceptionalism for what it is – and has always been112·3 months agoThis was a very long process that did not happen overnight. There are no perfect systems of government- they are run by humans and will always have human influence. The system is working as intended. Yes, there are checks and balances, but they are only as strong as the people enforcing them. No form of government is safe from this.
The only way to truly combat this is for us, as a society, to value and advocate for education and empathy. More importantly, we need to call out harm. Talk about politics at work. Your job is political and ignoring that fact will harm you and your neighbors. Politics is uncomfortable to talk about, but if we don’t, we’re letting our oppressors have control. Silence always favors the oppressor, never the oppressed.
We are all responsible for communicating with each other. A lot of people shut down after the election. This is not the time to stick your head in the mud and give up. This is the time to stand together and take action. Call and email your elected representatives. Volunteer. As Bernie said, if there’s a piece of legislation you disagree with, call the capital switchboard at (202) 224-2131.
We are not defeated. We are united in a cause for change.
What year did it release? There are apparently many titles with Debbie Does Dallas.

“Black Economic Empowerment” does not mean “no whites”. It means “blacks need to be part of the economy”. BLM does not mean “white lives do not matter”. It means “blacks shouldn’t be dying”. Feminism does not mean “women should be held above men”. It means “women should be treated equally”.
The only thing excluding Musk: he isn’t part of a marginalized group. He’s a billionaire. He isn’t marginalized.
