blave@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Anyone try the demo for Tavern Keeper on Steam yet? It's....... yeah.English712·1 day agoNo. I’ve never even heard of that game design studio, and I’m pretty sure that if I haven’t heard of a game design studio, they’re not “big enough to be too corporate”.
I was simply commenting on a general practice during game development. A practice which revolves around a profit motive, not around the size of whatever corporation may be developing the game. I have, in my own past, as an independent game developer, encountered such difficult development, decision decisions, as how much of which budget to cut.
So, I’m not simply speaking out of general bullshit. I’m actually speaking from experience.
Do you have any other questions?

It's....... yeah.English410·1 day agoAs game development budgets get cut, the first ones to go are the designers. It’s much easier to sell a game which doesn’t look great but still works than a game than looks great, but doesn’t work right. And the corporate assholes who are in charge of these game design budgets care only about one thing: sales. They couldn’t give a flying fuck if you enjoy the game, just that you bought it.

blave@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It's interesting that we have multiple appliances in the kitchen who's sole job is to turn electricity into heat.1·3 days agoConsidering that heat rises, I’d be pretty surprised if the heating element for an electric kettle was anywhere but beneath the tank. It wouldn’t work very well otherwise, unless you used a much more expensive method of heating it all around., But even then, there would still be heating elements underneath.
A good way to improve efficiency there, would be to insulate the tank to reduce heat dissipation in the first place.
blave@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It's interesting that we have multiple appliances in the kitchen who's sole job is to turn electricity into heat.5·3 days agowhat you’re describing is an oven with a heat pump. industrial-grade ovens like this exist, but they don’t really exist in the home appliance market as the amount of energy recaptured at that scale would be negligable. it’s easiere (and cheaper) to make ovens more energy efficient in other ways.
there are a number of other home appliances (washers, dryers, and dishwashers), however, which use inverter heat pumps to recapture/recycle heat, thus increasing energy efficiency by quite a lot.
