When you say ‘Taiwan is the original government’, what year are we talking here? [I am actually interested in a history discussion, I’m not trying to just be contentious] My understanding is that the current gov is only ~70 yrs old and is the remnants of the RoC. The RoC fled the mainland after losing the civil war to the commies, and then they took over the island and instituted martial law for like decades and tried to erase the indigenous peoples culture. Before that it was ruled by Japan at one point, mainland China at one point, and the Dutch at another point, i think Portugeuse were there for awhile. I dont think there was ever a united, one island government formed by the indigenous peoples. I’m not saying that Taiwan should welcome China with open arms - not at all- I’m questioning the support of their current government. As i finish writing this paragraph, I’m thinking I need to do some reading on the socioeconomics of modern Taiwan…

I appreciate your well thought out response to my rashly made comment. Also I looked through some rat park comics and I agree with their and your sentiments. Addiction is complex, and placing all the blame of addiction on the person is not just incorrect, but cruel and unhelpful. The thought process behind my comment was this: if environment, opportunity, and healthcare (also access to resources and just general compassion) are the ways to remedy addiction, than addressing drug problems by killing (alleged) drug traffickers or starting a trade war with china is completely off base. An addict WILL find their fix. I can also empathize with the need to ‘turn off the faucet’ of drugs in order to address the crisis levels of addiction in certain places, but to remove the drugs without also providing massive care\aid\resources is not going to solve the problem.

You have optimism. It could be used for good like you describe, but most likely will be used by EA to cut artists out, slash costs, make as much profit as possible and suffocate the company until the private equity owners move on to the next company.

There could be a question similar to “would you support\enforce the arrest orders of the ICC and NYC mayoral office”. Again I agree that we are twisting his words, but I think Mamdani is twisting his own words in order to form a “big tent” of support that contains opposing ideas.
