Well, it doesn’t completely replace your lockscreen. Instead, it adds an overlay you can customize. It’s really powerful customization-wise

On what android version are you? I had no problems setting up adaptable storage on LineageOS 19 (Android 12).
Adaptable storage also encrypts the SD card btw
