In US English at least, it’s also a very common abbreviation for “convict” as in a convicted criminal. Although one would likely see more of those in a prison or being lead out of a courtroom, I’m sure a typical police station has plenty of repeat offenders.

5·19 days agoYou’re asking someone who may literally work at a surveillance company to publicly admit to the stuff they linked? Personally I think it was a bad idea for them to post that link or even suggest they know it exists.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What was the stupidest form of US defaultism you've encountered in real life whilst they're abroad?
71·22 days agoI was super young, like maybe 4-5 or something, when my family took a short trip south from San Diego (USA) into Tijuana, Mexico since the border was right there and it wasn’t a big deal back then.
I remember seeing price tags and being really surprised… That they were in US dollars.
I don’t think I had even started school yet, but I still knew that different country = different language and different money. Not sure how people can miss that so easily.
Got a visible spectrum comparison?

It’s not exactly that they ran out of money, but the admin who ‘held the keys’ went offline long enough for the hosting to end.
One of the other admins started a new instance. Also the old instance was brought back as read-only.

Because the timing of her death triggered the court to (eventually) go majority bonkers.
I don’t doubt that, I haven’t looked into it, but her life didn’t affect me as strongly as her death.

My understanding is that even if the brakes are working, it’s still not safe for maintenance people to have the public using them as stairs. And maybe to fix whatever is wrong they might need to disengage the brakes anyway.
