I’m a software engineer and I have been playing guitar nearly every day since I was 8 years old. I release everything GPL/AGPL or CC-BY-SA that I own and can. You are fighting a losing battle. I understand why you think that, but the organization that owns the trademarks of open source do not agree with you (or me). I also disagree with that organization’s definition of open source AI, but they own the legal right to define the meaning of “open source” in the technology trade, the trade in which they own the trade mark. But laws are laws and you either abide by them (as a corp, what are you gonna do?) or don’t (fuck yeah, commit crimes).

Weights are the only thing you’ll get from “open source” ai. You need to look for stricter legal definitions to meet your understandable criteria.

I started using Twitter in 2009. It was just techy people back then. Things are allowed to take time and grow organically.

IRC and email isn’t dead and they are completely anonymous. Web ain’t gonna die. TCP and UDP ain’t ever gonna die. HTTP ain’t ever gonna die. HTML ain’t ever gonna die. JSON isn’t even part of the web but it de facto is now. At this rate JS ain’t ever gonna die unfortunately. The web is safe. The internet is safe. Everything is open and it can’t be taken away or killed.

Think of it like climate change. The internet is going to be just fine. Its whoever is trying to benefit from digital IDs that will go extinct on it, and the internet will have healed itself from them.

Where Linux?

They can’t just say “it’s puppet” because trademark. So they have to advertise as “alternative to the leading” blah blah to enterprises. This is absolutely targeted at enterprise to buy support, so gotta be legally friendly.

Open source is anarchist socialism. This whole platform works because socialism works. The internet is made up of protocols that people aren’t required to implement but do because they’re good ideas that are well thought out and work and were created without force or threat of violence like threatening the right to sue for damages even. Bad ideas get worked on and fixed. Look at Wayland in Linux, a complete volunteer driven effort that got funding because it was a good idea. No one forced all Linux desktop environments to switch from x11 because a new law got signed, but instead volunteers were like “thank you for fixing x11 in your free time.”

I know that advertisers love that TikTok knows when a user desires your product. I wonder why they can target you so well? All state sponsored social media, X and Meta and company as well as TikTok, should be avoided if you don’t want corporations and capitalists and authoritarians having that much information about you. If you hate corporations trying to sell you things, maybe don’t use a dopamine and social habit tracking app that’s designed to sell ads to play on your fears

Id question the intelligence of anyone who used any app specifically because of a country associated with it when it’s not an app about countries. Going to Chinese apps just because TikTok gets banned is kinda silly imo, but then again I don’t use state-sponsored social media like TikTok or instagram etc
