  • you have to create the engagement that you want to see on lemmy and effort posts & comments on terrorism and how it applies to this situation is going to require an audience that doesn’t fit in well with any “general interest” instance like the one you’re commenting from.

lemmy was meant to be political since its inception and; in your shoes; i would take advantage of that fact to engage on this topic in one of the original political instances since their communities are already inclined to such a discourse as evidenced by the example @davel shared.

the palestine community is really active and i’m have no doubt that they would have interesting perspectives on the west’s War on Terror and earlier anti-terrorism efforts as it pertains to current events induced by the same common imperialistic hegemony that has been fucking over their lives more than it has been fucking up american lives (esp healthcare). now that our government is treating luigi with the same terrorist charge that they’ve levied against palestinian leaders; there’s a commonality that can be explored that won’t happen on a general interest instance.

that’s the beautiful thing about linux; so many way to accomplish a goal and it you can do it at any experience level.

the best part is that all of it is free and your solution is easily shareable through things like social media and source code repositories where people with more experience can improve upon your idea further. if your idea is REALLY good, it will become mainstream.

  • some desktop environments and window managers have built in functionality to do this through something like config files or a gui config.

the intentionally “simplified” or “streamlined” alternatives (ie gnome) requires more involvement and runs at a gradient between simple kde like config file at one extreme end, to full on source modification at the other extreme end.

if something like this was a common thing for me; i would go with an environment that makes the bells and whistles available to you as the default option, like kde.

  • What is shameful about loving Reddit? Honestly asking.

For me: it engages in the same discourse shaping that legacy media employs to manufacture consent to please their investors.

The most savvy media literate people have difficulty deciphering the unspoken truths from social media, including reddit, so there’s very little likelihood that the average person won’t be affected and your circumstances determine your views, so you too will be affected by someone like reddit’s manufactured discourse no matter how much you try.

  • It’s wild to me that liberals and leftists were both aware of the path that Weimar took towards facism and the liberals decided to use that knowledge to pressure the leftists to hold their nose to vote w them anyways (just as it happened in the Weimar) and the leftist refused (also just like what happened in the Weimar) and now we’re in this situation w trump.

It makes me believe that; at some future state; the liberals will likewise believe that they can force the leftist to kowtow to their platform to the same disastrous results and it makes me wonder if the left wing of politics will permanently do this dance of the liberals perpetually trying to force the leftists into unwillingly accept their platform despite it not happening no matter how much they push for it and I also wonder if the liberals will ever learn this lesson as well of the lessons from 2016 and 2024 that they will never be able to pressure the leftists into accepting thier platform.

The fact that the Democrats continue to insist that they lost this election because they went too woke makes me believe that this will happen at least one more time; assuming that there will be another time.
