  • Strikes don’t work in that case. Strikes only make sense in times where there’s a shortage of labor force. But in this case, the opposite is the case: there’s more than enough potential workers, and that’s why wages are low.

The labor market is a market. It has supply (workers) and demand (jobs). High supply --> lower prices (wages). Higher demand --> higher prices (wages). It’s that simple.

Fundamentally, workers in the US, no - wait, actually, worldwide, are fucked. There’s a declining number of well-paying jobs, and the supply of workers has stayed constant or even increased over the last 60 years. Of course, that leads to lower wages. I don’t think we can “innovate” our way out of this one. The only true solution that can pacify the people and avert a civil war is the Universal Basic Income - it guarantees that people can have viable lifes and have “too much to lose”. There’s no alternative - demand it from your politicians!

  • Now if Google could explain why toggling wifi through Tasker requires root, I would LOVE to hear the reasoning…

tbf all hardware-functions require root permission by default.

Linux does the same thing. If you want to access /dev/sda, it requires root.

I could guess one of the ways it could interfere with security is that it would probably also allow the app to disable WiFi. If the app does that, it could incur costs as now data is being transmitted over mobile connectivity. Also, it would maybe allow the app to find your mobile-IP address, which could be used to geotrack you. But i don’t know, i’m just talking out of my ass here.

  • tbh the security settings on desktop devices tend to be more lax in general; for example almost any desktop pc has an open bootloader, means you can sideload an operating system from usb. The consequence is that no password-at-login will protect your private data; only full disk encryption can.

Smartphones on the other hand often have a fully-locked bootloader, which means it’s totally non-trivial to install an alternative operating system. especially, it often contains wiping any data on the smartphone, so an attacker with access to the device can’t simply install their own OS and read the internal storage.

  • Fear of decline

Edit: after reading the article, it’s about something else. Indian parlamentary seats depend on share of population, not on economic strengths, so some states worry to lose out.

Edit again: Well, no, my first instinct was right. The article is full of stupid people spitting hate at women for choosing to have fewer children. The article also seems to mostly think of offspring as future workforce, in other words slaves to the economy. The human population has been less than 1/1000 of what it currently is just a few thousand years ago (as can be seen in this diagram) and humanity prospered. I don’t see the problem.

  • I’m very tired and had a long day so I’ll keep it short:

A lot of people (myself included) have difficulty listening to authorities. But if i can see the deeper meaning and benefit of a rule, it’s easy for me to keep to it. That is what i mean by putting “meaning(ful rules) into the world”.

On the other hand, if somebody gives out commands without explaining the reasoning behind them, i will often complain, revolt or otherwise try to undermine the authority. That is what i mean by “violence leads to counterviolence”.

I hope that was clear enough.

Unchain yourself from the criticisms of figures your country has implanted in you over your lifetime, and think in terms of ideas.

Realistically, that’s not gonna happen for most people. Hear me out:

In 1500s when the printing press was invented, Martin Luther (not to be confused with Martin Luther King) saw the opportunity to print “bibles for everyone” to transform everybody into a priest - an enlightened being that always (or at least mostly) does the good/right thing.

We know from history that that didn’t succeed. Not everybody turned into a priest, not even close. Instead, he caused Evangelism, and is partially causal for the Thirty Years’ War.

Realistically, people thinking in terms of ideas is an inclination you’re born with (or so I believe). There’s just a lot of people who are not gonna do that. Especially if people see themselves at a (economic) disadvantage because of it. Most people just wanna live through ordinary life.

BTW, I guess something similar happened with the internet. When the internet was first invented, people guessed that it would lead to the total education of all human beings. Instead, it has caused smartphones, “social” media (which is more antisocial media tbh), and a lot of spreading dumb narratives. So i’m not sure it really “enlightened” the people.
