  • After listening to the book a half dozen times or so, I came to the thought it’s like poetry in novel form, the prose can be beautiful and horrid in emotions. Case is high as often as he can and he’s the lens we see most things through so everything is a bit surreal. So I’m guessing that’s agreeing with you calling it an art house novel it that’s close to what you meant.

It’s one of my favourite novels of all time, I only wish I read it when it was newer, only got it like 10 years ago and I was prime age to read it in the 90s. Oh well, glad I got around to it.

  • From my experience with Dexedrine, it actually hides headaches more often than causes them, but I still get them now and then. The aches, you sure you’re moving around enough? It’s easy to get into a focus and then realize later in the day you were in a bad position or were tensing up more and didn’t get the movement your muscles needed. I do say this as a middle aged dude so experiences may vary but I can easily zone out programming for a few hours then wonder why something is sore.

  • Not everyone can take it, when I first tried meds for ADD Ritalin was the first one and gave me hives for the few days I was on it. At one point tried others without side effects but they weren’t as effective so just kept with Dexedrine.

Maybe the hives would have gone away but not exactly work friendly to be productive which was the reason for the meds in the first place.

  • After reading a walkthrough I’m confident I beat at least one round of the game, heh, maybe I misinterpreted that for the game ending screen (he gets on the spaceship at the end of the round for those that don’t know)… If there’re no pits in the first round I believe I made it further than that at because I remember them well.

Though with my memory these days I’m happy when I leave work with everything I intended to so not saying it’s completely accurate I mostly just remember ET getting on a ship.

  • Was ET actually difficult or just unclear how to progress? I swear I finished it when I was a kid but the amount of games I’ve finished in my life is extremely tiny, if things get too hard I just go play something else for awhile (looking at every stealth mission shoehorned into non stealth game). So maybe I just misremembered finishing it but I sure played it a lot before I got an NES.

Not if the place doesn’t do daylight savings time, and not all places in a timezone will do that (least in North America) so you need extra code if they do or do not. It becomes a pain after awhile when you do it in multiple projects. Technically one extra setting but it’s still a pain to make sure it’s handle properly in all cases, especially when the previous programmer decided to handle it for each case individually, but that’s a different issue.

Also when you deal with the times, say in .Net you gotta make sure it’s the proper kind of date otherwise it decides it’s a local system date and will change it to system local when run. Sure it’s all handled but there are many easy mistakes to make when working with time.

I probably didn’t even get to the real reason, I sort of picked this up on my own.

  • I agree mostly but you do need some time, that was sort of the key, not the actual timeframe. The best jokes one month later would not work regardless how good they were. Well anywhere in the US. Even you said a decade later, that’s over half an adult worth of time for a human growing up.

  • You think there can only be one god? That sounds limiting. I don’t believe in any, but say does Buddhism really contradict most of Christianity real values? Like be good to people (help the less fortunate) try to let things go to not burden your well being (praying for forgiveness), respect others (do unto others). Besides having to actually believe in a god what’s the difference between the two? Though the Buddhist view I’m thinking of doesn’t require a god either but both seem to have teachings of compassion and love for your fellow person (some restrictions apply when dealing with intolerant types). I’m not saying you shouldn’t have faith but don’t say one has to be wrong.
