Can’t imagine wanting to work for big tech these days lol. These companies had insane reputation in the 2010s. People thought working for Google was like working in willy wonka’s chocolate factory. They really squandered their brand.
I had a bitwarden premium family plan
I recently moved my digital life away from google and microsoft. I previously had the following subscriptions:
And I had a gmail account, which I often used for SSO. I realized that, the total monthly cost of these subscriptions together was more expensive than a single Protonmail *family * subscription, so I cancelled them all, got the family subscription, and now my wife and her sister all have protonmail accounts as well as storage, a password manager, and VPN access. In the process of moving my logins to my protonmail account, so that I don’t have to keep my ancient Facebook account around for signing into things like spotify anymore. Coupled this with moving to the federated internet from reddit and instagram
I also dropped office for libreoffice. MS Office provides dubious value over the free competition, especially with a SAAS model.
Finland. Coffee, cigarette, and vodka. Called blöro
I’ll take “dad’s who die alone in retirement homes” for 3000, Alex
Buy a rolex if you want to impress other guys with rolexes. Literally nobody else cares
I like planet money from NPR
Need to reorganize liberal politics from the ground up. Liberals need to justify their existence and the value of their policies at the city and state level and use that to build a national brand. Democrats in federal government seem to be totally unwilling to push their agenda in deference to political norms, but in my state they get quite a lot done when they’re in power
Twitter has always been the red headed step child of social media. It had outsized cultural importance because most people consumed it via screenshot, not actually browsing the site. The reach of an individual twitter user is greatly augmented by their reach on other social platforms via screenshot
Reddit became an outrage factory for me in ways that other social media doesn’t. Facebook et al would push political news at me that was meant to piss me off, but Reddit suggests me nothing but videos of people being assholes in public, cutting each other off in traffic, getting into fights, etc. It’s like clockwork orange or some shit. I like that here, I can set my default algorithm to only subs (are they called subs?) that I subscribe to, in chronological order only.
I’m thinking of starting a friendica node for my city. I feel that a big problem with federated apps is that the audience isn’t local enough; it’s usually mostly tech-oriented people and doesn’t have enough local services.
Quick call? 5min
