Technology@lemmy.world•DeepSeek R1 Is Reportedly Running Inference On Huawei's Ascend 910C AI Chips, Showing China's Growing AI CapabilitiesEnglish
571·1 year agoHonestly good for them. US tech CEOs deserve to have their lunch eaten for ducking the industry into stagnation with their short sighted greed.

Technology@lemmy.world•deepseek's model claims to be chatgpt during conversation. what does this mean?English
2·1 year agoI believe it has been confirmed that Deepseek-r1 was trained with RL datasets that originated with chatgpt. Pretty standard.

Technology@lemmy.world•Decentralized Social Media Is the Only Alternative to the Tech OligarchyEnglish
2·1 year agoI agree but let’s be honest. That may be how it worked in revolutionary France but that wasn’t how it worked in the US in the 20th century. The “3rd Places” that most people were involved in were union halls, civic organizations, and social societies. We’ve largely forgotten that history, but it’s not something we can get back without organizing online first.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why don’t more people start profit-sharing companies or co-ops?
61·1 year agoIt’s not uncommon in a lot of industries for more traditional enterprises to refuse to do business with these sorts of companies.

Ok but for real tho. The average American severely underestimates how far you can get on rice, beans, lentils and chickpeas.

Technology@lemmy.world•Apple refuses to call Apple Intelligence 'AI'English
51·2 years agoI dunno if ‘Siri but functional’ is good enough to get points from me. That said this is definitely good for the industry

Technology@lemmy.world•Apple refuses to call Apple Intelligence 'AI'English
122·2 years agoI mean the biggest innovation here isn’t the “AI” (partially “on-device” or otherwise). It’s exposing the apps action hooks to the model.

Technology@lemmy.world•Apple refuses to call Apple Intelligence 'AI'English
291·2 years agoThis isn’t actually innovative it is just not OpenAIs business model. This recent trend is honestly a much smaller blip than most people recognize.

Technology@lemmy.world•Apple refuses to call Apple Intelligence 'AI'English
1068·2 years agoLet’s be honest. They certainly plan to, but first they’re gonna see if saying “Apple Intelligence” a bunch is going to convince people they actually did something innovative.

World News@lemmy.world•How an Israeli raid freed 4 hostages and killed scores of Palestinians in GazaEnglish
384·2 years agoLiterally hundreds of civilians killed to rescue 4 hostages. I don’t know what happened but I can guarantee we will be hearing more about it.
Not a huge fan of the title but this is breaking news and I think the AP can be trusted to at least get the basics right.
