It’s too bad Ente doesn’t have any browser extensions, because it sounds pretty awesome otherwise.

That’s awesome. I can’t wait now.
Oh, I’m not trying to make it happen. I just think it’s inevitable that someone will. And probably pretty soon.
That’s an interesting idea. I’ll have to see if I can do something of the sort and see if it matters. I have a feeling it’ll still pop the stupid messages about connecting to the internet, but maybe I’ll get lucky and it won’t.
Thanks!
To add to this, my LG C2 kept popping up a message that I could use Alexa with it if I connected it to Wifi.
To kill that message, I did. Now it pops up advertisements in that same way from time to time.
If I take it offline again, I get messages about connecting it again.
It’s effectively impossible to kill ads on it.
A couple years ago I signed up for an email provider so I could use my own domain and avoid Google being able to kill my email account. They’ve got a spam filter, but it’s ridiculously bad. I’ve been looking for better ways, but still haven’t found them.
Ironically, I’m hoping a free locally-run LLM will soon be able to filter emails appropriately. I haven’t seen anyone trying yet, but I’m sure they’re out there.
“we had an argument in a bar and I got up and left, then she sent the text,”
If you abandon your girl in a bar, you should absolutely expect to lose her, birthday or not. She is under no obligation at that point to consider his feelings about his special day.
They’ve been quietly preventing Firefox from becoming a threat for a long time. There are constant little things that just mysteriously don’t work as well on Firefox, for no reason. People have changed the user agent and found that it works just like on Chrome with Chrome’s agent. Youtube was doing it for a while, and reviews on the search are another instance. I was at the Dentist’s and they were asking for a Google review, but I couldn’t find the spot to leave it. I switched to Chrome and it was magically right where it was supposed to be.
So they already think Firefox could be a threat, and preventing ad-block is going to make it a bigger threat.
Because this is likely to drive a lot of people to try switching. And they’re the type of people who try to convince other people to switch, too. Techies, etc.
When forced with trying to keep family safe from abusive and/or manipulative ads, this is a pretty hot topic. Plenty of people tell their family what browser to use and even set it up for them with ad blockers, etc.
I’ve recently had some experiences that tell me my parents are at a vulnerable age and can’t fully protect themselves, so it’s pretty important to have control of this.
There’s a few things going on. At first blush, I agree with you. The vast majority of that stuff doesn’t need to be captured.
But if you don’t capture everything, how do you know you got the stuff that will be important or wanted in the future?
Also, historians are going to find that data to be an absolute gold mine. Unfortunately, a lot of it is in the form of video now and takes a ton of storage space.
I think, in the end, most people are not willing to pay the price to archive everything. But some are, and they’re doing it.
There are things that you shouldn’t do or say to minors that aren’t illegal, but anyone reading them would still know it’s it’s unethical/wrong/immoral/whatever. They clearly thought he crossed that line, enough that they’d rather fire him and take a chance on losing the court case for damages for breaking the contract. And then they lost that court case.
It clearly wasn’t just “a chat with a minor”. The rumors I’ve heard is that he was attempting to make plans to meet up with them at a convention. That would definitely be in the “big no no” category for a celebrity talking to a minor, even if nothing untoward was suggested in that conversation.
Because what he did wasn’t illegal. It was just wrong. They didn’t want anything to do with him any more, but he didn’t break the law and so they couldn’t use that part of the contract to terminate it.
They felt it was so wrong that they paid him $20mil to break that contract. They absolutely would have taken another option if it was viable.
I say to one of their neighbors, “their pies tasted better when they were using real sugar, but they’re scared the kids’ mommies will be mad because their kids are up all night so they just took the sugar out. Didn’t even replace it with anything. The Johnson’s still use real sugar, they don’t care.”
Actually, I would say that unless it impacts you negatively, you shouldn’t criticize what others are giving freely. If they ask for criticism, that’s fine. But you shouldn’t volunteer it.
That “free pie stand” didn’t do you wrong. You dumped a heap of negativity on them for something they did out of the goodness of their heart, spending their time, energy and hand-earned money on. And you were negative about it, staining their memory of that event for your own selfish desires.
If they had asked you, “why don’t you want this pie?” you could have answered, nicely. But they didn’t ask you.
Instead, you should have just left and gone to the Johnston’s pie stand instead.
I 100% agree with your point about security and private information, but you are way over qualified for this “job”. ;)
It’s kind of weird to ask someone to have all that mod experience and then expect them to just post their private information publicly, though. Surely if they have enough experience they’ll already know what a bad idea it is to publicly post people’s information, and it’ll be hard to get them to apply.
It reminds me of a past job recognizing that I have a lot of cashier experience, but then not being able to understand why I refuse to share a till with anyone else. Duh, because I’ve been through that pain before and any smart office will want to avoid it, too.
And incentivize them to raise it? No thanks!
I don’t know about this instance, but in the general, it could be that the person is a complete fucking douche, and people are trying to stick it to them however they can. That might mean lying, blowing things out of proportion, or just slightly twisting the truth.
And once sharks smell blood, they swarm. One allegation will lead to another.
Again, I don’t know the situation here and refuse to pick a side. Guilt is for the courts to decide. But there’s plenty of people who will lie, cheat, and steal for money or fame.
They delisted them before they announced that they wouldn’t require accounts after all.
Gamesir T4 Kaleid. I love the hall effect joysticks, and it feels like it’s the right size. The one negative is that it’s wired-only.
OTOH, the GameSir Nova (not lite) is hot garbage. I hate almost everything about it, and its wireless PC connection (without the dongle that it does not come with) is trash. It’s basically only good as a Switch controller… And I haven’t even actually tried it for that.
The GameSir Nova Lite is much better, but still too small and you need to use the slightly-older 4200 firmware (from the official app) instead of the latest, because they got stupid about things.
I somewhat like the Xbox Elite V2 controller, but you have to get a good one. A bad one will have really crappy triggers that sometimes won’t work. I think I’ve even heard that the sticks are sometimes wonky. And it’s not hall effect.
I was so upset when I subscribed to Google Fi and they told me I couldn’t have my Voice account as well. Ugh.
Oh well, sometimes it’s better to rip off that bandaid. I’ve further de-Googled since then and continue to do so slowly.
It’s one guy claiming people around him are happy about it. He doesn’t even say that he is personally excited about it.
