  • This question always depends heavily on where someone lives and someone’s expected standard of living.

Someone who lives on that much already thinks it would be enough for them until they die, but they might not have ever had open market insurance, and likely not a catastrophic illness while on it. That kind of thing makes you realize how financially vulnerable you really are. It’s not about steady state while healthy, it’s about contingency planning.

I’m in a situation where I could probably relatively safely retire with $2 million, but like you I would be nervous about $1 million.

  • My recommendation is don’t buy a plasma in 2025. I feel the same way about smart TVs, but you can just, like, not connect your TV to the Internet. That’s what I do. It works fine.

I used to own a really high-end plasma and held off on replacing it until high-end 4K OLED screens became more affordable, but I swapped it out about seven years ago and haven’t missed it.

I was playing the original Castlevania on it just the other day. Game mode, RetroUSB AVS, and an 8bitdo N30 wireless controller, and the lag is only like 10-12 ms. I can play Battletoads just fine with this setup.

  • These idiots spend half the message praising themselves and the other half just spouting profanity and phrases that won’t convince anyone of anything.

If you want to actually have a chance at changing minds, just report the actual news that many Americans never see because their news sources bury it or don’t report it:

    • about the continual violation of the cease fire by Israel
    • about the tortured, mutilated, and executed prisoners returned by Israel
    • about the murder of fisherman
    • about the ICE raid on the Chicago apartment where 37 adults and children were dragged naked into the street and so far they can only claim one person was possibly in the country illegally
    • play the audio of ICE tear gassing normal people, including an infant, who saw there was a vehicle collision between an ICE vehicle and another car and approached the scene
    • play the audio of ICE shattering the window of a car with an infant in it and the mother screaming in terror
    • about the outrageous lengths Trump’s lackeys are going to to prevent disclosure of the Epstein files
    • about the promise of $40 billion to Argentina to prop up a right-wing ideologue and what that could buy every taxpayer in the country, followed immediately by how they can’t find the money to extend health care benefits
    • about the build up of forces in the Caribbean in what is clearly a build up to war with Venezuela

Et cetera. Americans who are in their bubble need to be disturbed out of their bubble.
