If you invest a lot in to learning as much as possible when younger, then by like late 20s you can get a decent sense of things. But even then it’s a tiny percentage of everything.

zd9@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do people really not care that we live in a society that favours assholes or are there so many more assholes than nice people that it's unstoppable?121·29 days agoI know it may seem that way if you’re constantly online these days, but in general most people are just people. Like 80% are mostly good, but human, and may have some minor issues. Probably 10% are Jesus-level good, then 10% are sociopathically evil.
Now, if by society you mean “American capitalism”, then yes that favors assholes who care less about their fellow humans. This flavor of capitalism is inherently selfish and greedy, so those who succeed in it are the most greedy and bad people. Yes people care, but the forces preventing anyone from changing it are the strongest in the history of human civilization with technology too now, that makes it borderline impossible to change the underlying system. Only a major catastrophe caused by capitalism where millions of Americans died would cause the general populace to question the system, but honestly even then who fucking knows.

zd9@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Expensive South Florida real estate. Most expensive houses are right on the rim2·1 month agoNo it’s not. It may not be AI but it’s not a real location. Look at the clouds. Look at the actual shape of it, where the “head” matches a little too closely. Natural shores wouldn’t form like that. The tree line is really fake. Look at any one point closer than just a glance and it doesn’t really make sense geographically when you think about it.
It’s kind of crazy/sad you can’t tell.
zd9@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Expensive South Florida real estate. Most expensive houses are right on the rim85·1 month agoDo people think this is real…? When you can use AI to make anything it’s not really special anymore, because it’s so common.
That would actually be really neat to see. Is it possible to see the age distribution? There’s really no way to know, I don’t think

“Fact’s”
What the fuck is wrong with kids today? They’re getting dumber and dumber
What an alien world we live in
The mods just do great work in some subs, but completely destroy others. I got banned overall for posting facts in conservative subs…
But I don’t think lemmy fixes that since it has the same mod/channel structure. The nice thing is that advertisers and nefarious actors haven’t started posting as “fellow kids” yet, like they have on Reddit for many years.
Reddit has been shit for like 5+ years at that larger levels, but some small niche hobby and similar subs are still decent.

zd9@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Silicon Valley Is Panicking About Zohran Mamdani. NYC’s Tech Scene Is NotEnglish32·2 months agoThe rise of fascism in the mid-1920s to late 1930s was a direct response by the ruling capitalists to the ascent of real, populist/socialist/communist changes that actually threatened their power and wealth for the first time in history. It happened all over the world (well at least Europe), and it totally makes sense what we’re seeing now all over the world.
I mean, I think the point of the post is generally how to live in the world. Of course there are almost infinite obscure facts and skills, but I get your point.
