I looked up some images, and there’s some that aren’t bad. The ones on the East that I’ve seen are the basic skinny tower with some Christmas tree-like foliage up and down, jutting far above the pine trees, so they stick out more than if they had just left it a bare tower.
Grating might also be for protection from things like nesting birds. I prefer this over the obvious fake but pretending to be a tree versions.
California does a good job with the tree disguises so I’m a fan of them. You can still tell but still nicer. Not sure about other places lately

I think it is hilarious that there are oil derricks in fake buildings in LA.
As much as I agree the fake trees seem fake, they’re surprisingly effective.
I’ve asked people about cell towers on a hill nearby, and no one has ever noticed them. I tell them they look like fake trees, they still don’t know.
Our brains are pretty good at filtering out seemingly useless information.
