I haven’t being following news on this show too closely since it’s still a way out, so maybe this has been mentioned elsewhere. I noticed that the Klingon character has a pretty similar ridge structure to Worf and family, especially with Worf’s updated look from Picard. Might just be a coincidence though.

Looks decent enough. It will be attacked and this might also affect its success is the lack of a white blonde blue eyed European character.

    Perceived ethnic/race breakdown:

    • Caleb Mir: Human, light brown could pass for Arab, Pakistani, or mulatto
    • Jay-Den Krag: Klingon, cliché dreadlocks wearing black with a very human first name
    • Sam: Kasquian but looks human, black or mixed, big eyebrows
    • Darem Reymi: Khionian but looks human, looks Arab or Mediterranean
    • Genesis Lythe: Dar-Sha, looks human with wrinkly eyebrows, looks east Asian or mixed

All of them have dark black hair and dark brown eyes.

Granted the captain chancellor of the school is a white and blond lady.

This casting makes it easy to attack as woke and might limit its audience. Discovery always had Stamets and even redhair representation with Tilly.

A show about a military-esque academy with the values duty, honor, service should naturally appeal to conservatives. If that audience can get over the casting.

Three men, two women is a good balance. They refrained from having a token trans, genderqueer, or non-binary character, which is a good idea. Discovery didn’t handle theirs very well I think.

A character I would have loved here is an alien character that looks androgynous or female with pale skin, blue eyes, white or red hair. A platinum blonde blue eyed Vulcan ice queen would be cool to see as well.

It’s a school drama show. So there will be rival groups and cliques, which could have different ethnic compositions, ideological outlook, or style. Lots of potential there.

Overall the positive optimistic outlook of building a better future together is sorely needed at the moment. I deeply hope it can appeal across the political spectrum.

Agreed. I’ve been enjoying SNW, but it’s been playing it far too safe. Star Trek needs to rock the boat a little!

In all seriousness, that would be the absolute best reason for this series to fail. I would be incredibly proud of it.

They wouldn’t put this tease in the trailer if they weren’t actually bringing Him back, right?

      Right?

That is a bit of weirdness that happens sometimes when Lemmy posts federate to Mastodon. It sometimes grabs the thumbnail and headline from a completely different post.

I have no idea why, but it’s incredibly annoying.

Whenever this happens, it looks absolutely fine on some Mastodon instances (I just checked, and this post looks fine on my own), and “wrong” on others (like yours).

That suggests to me that the issue may lie with the Mastodon server, but I genuinely don’t know, and have no idea how to replicate the issue.
