I say basically new because we’ve had them for maybe a month. Had to run the dishwasher again to get it unstuck. It’s a crappy apartment provided dishwasher that doesn’t do its job well (notice the food stains that won’t come off). There’s still melted plastic on the heating element and the plastic fumes are strong.
Edit: I was never taught that you’re not supposed to put knives in the dishwasher. Going forward I will wash them by hand. Thank you all for letting me know.

You deserve nothing less.
Buy proper tools and learn to treat them well.
Getting downvotes (and bots were here etc) but this is essentially true, if delivered a bit mean.
Don’t buy ceramic knives; they dangerous as hell and will fail catastrophically at the wrong time. And never put your cutting knives in the dishwasher, as you amended your post to say.
Good knives don’t have to be expensive, but you’ll have to so some research or buy second and learn how to sharpen them. They will burn me as a witch, but there are other methods than a whetstone that are just as effective and that do not significantly damage your blade.
