It’s just the usual Google bullshit.

Hi, we’re going to mine you for data. We will profit from it. We will keep it indefinitely.

Oh, you want to have access to it too? Sorry, can’t do that.

Yeah, they’ll dump the data from their storage when there’s no profit in it for them, but that’s not exactly the same as just not collecting any location data at all, which is where it should be if they’re going to be disallowing access to what they still have stored arbitrarily.

You people will take anything good a company does and shit on it. This change was to stop the constant geofence warrants they were getting from police. They used to be forced to hand over data of everyone that was near some location at some time. It caused all sorts of people to be investigated by the police for the simple fact they drove past some address at some time. And now that can no longer be done.

But I guess you support the police state. /s

        Some advice.

Any time you find yourself thinking the phrase “you people”, stop. Stop, take some deep breaths and consider not actually saying it.

Nobody that has ever used that phrase has done so from a healthy place.

“You People”: People who just want to shit on everything so they can commiserate with others doing the same. People who spin good news negatively just so they don’t have to agree with a positive action from a company they hate.

There, did I define “you people” well enough?

Didn’t ask you to define it.

I’m saying that once you start thinking it, you’re in an unhealthy place and should take a few steps back for your own benefit…

Besides, it’s such a common thing that anyone running across it is just going to ignore anything after it because it’s never worth doing so, it’s just a rant, and often a strawman rant. Well unless it’s being used in a bigoted context, which issue the case here, though it is still the case that it’s a blind anger that only serves to dehumanize the “you people” while allowing the person using it to both feel superior and have a reason to reject anything else “you people” say.

You’re such a hypocrite. Your words here are such a stark contrast from your original comment. You are not the better person in this conversation. Stop trying to pretend you are.

See? There you go, doing exactly what the kind of thinking that leads to “you people” does.

Your other comment said you didn’t ask for my advice. That’s true.

However, you’re the one that rolled up to a comment and ranted about your pet peeve. Which, this is the internet, so it happens.

Then you complain about me framing my response as advice instead of just telling you to fuck off, our insult you, or whatever. Then, when I remain neutral-to-assertive in my language, you start throwing insults directly, and straw man me as assuming I’m the “better” person.

If you feel lesser than me, that is on you. I would recommend that if you don’t want people objecting to your words that you either don’t respond to other people or choose your words more carefully.

I’m not pretending anything. I’m a human being sitting here talking to another human being, a rude one, that engaged with me by their own choice. So far, I haven’t even gotten annoyed (mainly because this exact kind of exchange happens regularly online, it’s almost a meme it’s so common out there), but you’re increasing your degree of venom.

Do what you will with that; once I get bored, I’ll bugger off and ignore or block you depending on how nasty you get.
