Even if you got money for jewelry why pick the boring pointy piece of glass? There are gems and materials so much cooler than diamonds. My personal favourite is jade.

Google still works in languages other than English, like my workaround has been to just search in Estonian and I’ll usually actually get better results and like zero AI content (AI sucks at Estonian, can’t even get grammar right). So if you wanna use Google learn an obscure language.
Stop subsidising air travel and people are gonna prefer trains and boats real fast.
Why did you ignore the part where I said that the profits for grocery stores soared? Producing food has not become more expensive, that’s all public info here.
The government capped the price of electricity here a short while ago and that lowered the price of power massively.
Seems the solution would be to cap the price of all food then.
Farmers yes, grocery stores not anymore. Profits of companies is public info here and they started racking it in the moment the massive ‘inflation’ started. My parents live near a farm and they just buy veggies directly from them for like a fraction of the price, I unfortunately live in a city though. Prices are better at local markets but there arent many of those.
Yea we have a food inflation pretty close to those measured numbers though in reality its a lot higher and that’s without any caps. Also how could a food price cap cause inflation in food prices? That’s literally the thing you are capping.
Most food here is locally produced, I don’t see how that would create a shortage. Like people aren’t going to sell their grocery stores cuz their margins are thin again and farming is so heavily subsidised that I don’t see it effecting farmers.
I wish my country’s government had the testacles to cap prices on food. I order food mostly online and I compared prices from 2 years ago and most things are at least 200% more expensive, cheese for example is like 600% though.
Yea, no, elections were a joke in the soviet union. Pretty much everyone knew your vote counted for nothing and they started offering people food so they would show up to vote to give it some legitimacy. Unlike current Russia the soviet propaganda was mostly a laughing stock at the time.
Also the party members were basically picked by nepotism alone. Sure, you could have internal elections but the winner was always the one with most friends in the party. That’s kinda like saying north Korea is democratic because there are some internal elections while in practise it’s pretty much a monarchy.
Ancaps pretty much only exist in the US so elsewhere libertarian still means the original definition.

I’m not even talking about the famines soviet incompetence caused and deliberately worsened. Their death camps killed 1-8 million people, nobody knows exactly how many because, unlike the nazies, soviet records were absolute garbage and all accounts come from guards and prisoners. They also tried to destroy the culture and language of the occupied areas and replace the local population with Russians.
Not a meme considering exactly that happened, they agreed to divide Europe between themselves and not attack each other. Stalin absolutely wanted an alliance with Hitler and nothing indicates he was interested in fighting Hitler until he invaded. He got rid of Jewish diplomats to make Hitler happy. When Hitler invaded he refused to act since he did not want to believe that his ally betrayed him. I don’t doubt Hitler intended to break their alliance. Also are you saying if no one else wants to ally with you then allying with nazies is a good idea?
Instead the soviet union genocide it’s neighbours while allying with the nazies so that was not an improvement.
Also yea, the US is like the #1 killer of socialist governments, that’s not really news. And I don’t doubt that if it was between anarchists and authoritarians, the authoritarians would shoot the anarchist without hesitation to rule over the working class with an iron fist like it has happened every time so the choice is meaningless, actual socialists die in either case.
Considering the first thing Lenin did when getting to power was kill actual socialists that wanted democracy, I’ll never side with MLs(or more like stalinists since that ideology has little to do with Marx or Lenin). And my family got to experience the soviet regime first hand, loosing many friends and family to their death camp thinly veiled as work camps. MLs are as useful as nazies when it comes to finding solutions to humanity’s problems.
Authoritarians that like soviet iconography ain’t going to fix that or even help.
Currently watching Dollhouse which I’m not sure if qualifies as scifi. Planning on watching Altered Carbon after this though.
I have always loved Stergate. I grew up watching this and I rewatch the whole thing every few years and I have been itching to rewatch it soon. Also just recently finished The Expanse. It was hands down the best scifi show in recent history, my favourite will always be Firefly though.
According to the Estonian census it dropped between 1990 - 2015 (period after we got our independence back) and has been on an uptick since then. Though the massive drop right after 1990 is when soviet citizens left.
No idea why that graph is predicting that the population will halve in 80 years, seems a little ridiculous considering Estonian birth rate is fine and the population has been increasing for like 8 years.
Not really. A lot of Russian citizens left or where made to leave when Estonia got it’s independence back but outside of that I don’t think there has been a major population shift.
That toaster looks older than the one I got during the soviet occupation and everything from then looks 30 years older.
