Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•A growing number of americans say they can't afford a car. They are struggling with rising vehicle prices, auto loan interest rates, and insurance and maintenance costs English
5·8 days agoAgain, I’m not saying that you personally have to cycle, just that for many people there is actually a very low bar for them to do it. The examples of impossible situations every time cycling is suggested aren’t relevant, and just as pointless as someone saying everyone should be compelled to cycle.

122·8 days agoI don’t know why every time someone mentions cycling or walking, someone has to reply “what about people who drive 2 hours to work across the desert with a safe in the back of the car”? Yeah, not everyone can, but that doesn’t stop those who could. I cycle 16 miles a day to work and back, and I’m a lazy overweight 58 year old. If I can, most people who travel the same distance could.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What hill are you willing to die on even if no one in your life agrees with you?English
227·13 days agoPrivate ownership of vehicles should be banned. Most people’s cars are unused for 90% of the day, which is insanely inefficient. Have a pool of cars they anyone can hire just for the time they need them. It would be cheaper for everyone and there wouldn’t be three fuck ugly cars in front of every house.
