Not everyone wants to engage in a race to the bottom where you’re not allowed to seek to improve your circumstances relatively to other even more lucky and privileged people in your own country because people in other countries have even less. If you were in any of the countries you’re bringing up and talking to someone else in one of those countries you would literally be saying the exact same thing you are now you would just refer to someone in an even worse circumstance still, e.g. someone with two missing legs.

I bet you have things much easier than half the people in this thread and all you care about is making sure that isn’t threatened so you have to try to uphold the status quo at all costs. Because all you really care about is yourself, not anybody in Venezuala or anywhere else they’re just an argumentative tool to dismiss anybody who wants to make things better in their own country.

  • I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about, left leaning Americans seem to talk about Canada positively all of the time, in reference to its health care system and generally aboit how they want their country to be more like Canada. The only thing negative they say is in reference how native people have been treated and still continue to be treated there which I think is right.

I am not from either country and this is just based on what I see Americans online say about Canada/Canadians.

  • Huh interesting. So I guess replies appear in order of when they were made and not weighted based on upvotes, seen as there appears to be no equivent on Mastodon? Quite cool (and a bit confusing) how Activity Pub is stitching everything together. I wish I could see more content from Mastodon show up in Lemmy, not sure how that would work with communities though.

Also, I notice the web version of Mastodon has a really nice UI

  • So on Mastadon do you see Lemmy posts as the Mastadon equivalent of a Tweet?

I never see posts and comments from Mastadon users on Lemmy even though I believe it’s more popular so you would expect there to be more or at least a similar number as from Lemmy users. I think your comment is only the second I’ve seen from Mastadon users.

Like the other reply says, the user tag of the last Mastadon user I saw was [name]@null, though yours is fine for me now. Also odd that your attached images don’t show even though Lemmy has that feature too. Maybe these issues will be ironed out soon

  • The biggest problem with modern advertising is that they try to sell you on the idea before establishing what the idea even is.

This is definitely a running theme with ads, in fact there has been multiple instances where I have seen an ad, and despite seeing the entire duration I literally have no idea what was actually been advertised to me haha.

  • I think people care about different things, networking might not be something they’re interested in so aren’t interested in spending time learning about it. Where as when you are interested in it it’s not so hard to read, watch videos about it and experiment with it. At least that’s generally how I find these things work.
