i have a neighbor that keeps her old answering machine because her late-husband’s voice is on it. she has no home videos or anything else… just a few snapshots and that answering machine.

301·1 day agonot “motorola” (as in the mobile phone company that’s now part of lenovo, or the old cable box/modem company which is owned by arris), but rather a licensee of the name and trademarks for certain networking products… “premier logitech” (which has nothing to do with the computer peripherals company), which is owned by one of those buyout/“investment” firms “tide rock”.
i wouldn’t expect a thing out of them, especially support for gear designed, made or sold prior to tide rock’s ownership (acquired in 2024).
i don’t like tiling wm, and can’t stand seemingly random placement a linux d.e. usually gives (if not just centering everything every time).
i use the kwin script for ‘remember window positions’ to get behaviour similar to windows. gnome has something similar, too (‘smart auto move ng’). so now a window for a program will open right back up the same size and in the same spot next time you run it.
plasma mobile works on more than just handhelds, and you’ll find it in fedora and debian repos (among others, i’m sure).
where can i get a square gray cat like that?
the skinny orange pillow is kinda cool, too.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•On an emergency power supply with AC and DC electrical plugs, which do I use to charge or power appliances?English
4·2 days agoif you’re like me and just need the noise from the fan, and not the air circulation, there are other, more efficient ways to get white noise… some of which would have battery power available.
for instance, i use an old laptop (with an internal battery for ‘backup’) and usb powered speakers (the ones built in aren’t loud enough when the lid is closed (it runs that way). if the power goes out, the laptop runs for several hours (even with the old battery) before it hibernates due to a low battery.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•On an emergency power supply with AC and DC electrical plugs, which do I use to charge or power appliances?English
1·2 days agoif you’d plug a device into a regular wall outlet for power, it’s ac. if your power bank has an internal inverter and provides an ac outlet, you should be able to just plug it in–provided its power demands fit within the output specs of the power bank. a normal box fan using 20-75w (approximately what ours here are, depending on age. newer models are more efficient) should be ok.
