  • It’s a class war, but many boomers are scabs.

Remember when there was a worker shortage and retired boomers went and volunteered at chain restaurants so they wouldn’t have to raise wages to attract workers? Remember all the “millennials are so entitled, they want to be PAID FOR WORK” style posts by boomers, back when some non-boomers still used Facebook so we had access to their posts?

It’s not their fault they’ve been brainwashed by right-wing propaganda, but they for sure are fighting against anything resembling economic justice.

And obviously much like any generation, you can’t make sweeping statements about them. There are right-wing nutters in their 20s and even their teens out there right now and there are obviously boomers who aren’t selfish assholes.

  • Yeah you don’t need to spend $40 a year just for a bio page anyway, that’s nearly as much as the lowest end shared tier of a Hetzner VPS, which should be enough to host your website and instances of some of your favourite self-hostable services.

For a simple static website, there are several free options, most of them being free tiers of paid services. Some even let you set up automation pipelines to rebuild the site when the source gets changed (if you set up something like a git repo with markdown files, to be ingested by a static site generator that turns your markdown into a website, for an example).

On the topic of this post in general, not your issue in particular: The average blog never needed to be dynamic anyway. Static site is always going to load faster than a bunch of PHP being run in the server and there’s soooo much less attack surface!

I’ve driven Kia, Hyundai, etc. Trust me, you don’t want one of those. The Ioniq 5, one of the higher-end Hyundais, has absolutely shit ride quality. I test drove that, got back into my old diesel E-class (and I mean OLD. 2003) and felt like the E-class was the slowest thing ever, but 10x as comfortable as the Hyundai.

I did end up getting a newer car, but it wasn’t an EV, it was a 2019 C-class, because it was a lot more affordable than any new car in early 2022 and also way more comfortable than any EV that would’ve been “only” twice the price I paid. That’s because VW or BMW didn’t really have a proper lineup yet and MB and Audi were only doing really expensive models.

Now that the Germans have somewhat proper EV lineups and Volvo is turning around as well, the Koreans are just going to be the cheapo EVs, much like they were cheapo ICEs. They can have cool designs, pretty good infotainment, etc… But the ride quality is abysmal because they cheap out on everything that isn’t visible or numerically significant.

There’s so much in a car that the size alone doesn’t tell you, nor do numbers. The Ioniq 5 has a McPherson strut for the front suspension. My C-class (which I’ve since sold because I now drive so much, I can’t justify a car that has room to depreciate, I put 80k on it in the last 8 months), had multi-link front. In the Ioniq 5, I didn’t feel very confident cornering at a high speed on a back road. In the C-Class, it was soooo much better. But then you’d think maybe if the Ioniq 5 wasn’t as great for spirited driving, maybe it felt better over bumps? Also no, it felt MUCH worse. Way crashier. You could feel every bump in the road. And bear in mind, I didn’t even have Airmatic suspension or anything.

Now if you truly can go drive a Polestar, a Mercedes and a Hyundai and tell me that the Hyundai felt like the best car to you - go for it. But personally I’ve been ruined by the fact that I’ve driven extremely depreciated luxury cars for 8 years out of the 10 I’ve had a driver’s license and a nearly new executive car the other 2. I can feel every single imperfection in a car’s ride quality at this point lol

Ah, an extra fun fact: The best car I’ve owned in my last ~8 months of driving shitboxes, was a V8 Cayenne. For years I figured “but it’s just a Volkswagen with a Porsche badge, it can’t be that great”, but I was so wrong. The first gen Cayenne isn’t as sporty as the newer ones, but it could still corner pretty damn good for a big hunk of SUV, yet handled bumps really well too. It had locking diffs and a low-range transfer case. It was an absolute beast in every way. Unfortunately, one of those ways was fuel economy and though it was OK once I had LPG installed, the tank was so tiny, I had to refuel it every 200 km, so it also had to go.

  • When will humanity learn that capitalism is the problem, not the foreigners…?

Nooo nnnnnoooo you seee it’s the people who (look different/speak different language/family came to the country later than your ancestors did) who are causing all your problems. Don’t look at Mr. Musk who has enough money to buy countries, or Mr. Kühne whose family company gladly helped do the logistics for the holocaust, while he doesn’t even pay taxes in Germany because he doesn’t believe in taxation.

  • Former child here. Children will figure out how to get access to anything they need. They’re not the target audience here. Or at least it won’t work that way, even if intended to.

Since this says “material that is ‘harmful to minors’” and not specifically pornography, it could also be used to silence dissenting opinions, etc. Reading anti-republican propaganda? Better be ready to show you ID for that…

  • Yes, that’s part of the StopKillingGames agenda as well. Allow us to control our own servers! For fuck’s sake, it’s CHEAPER for them, because WE’RE paying for hosting. A dedicated server costs money! And it keeps people buying into the ecosystem after the initial sales high because you form communities and then tell people IRL how awesome the game is. Assuming you have time for real life friends of course.

I’m not against the existence of a matchmaking system, or even against it being the default. Just give us a tiny menu item “Dedicated Servers” somewhere and keep that one around forever, even when the publisher is long bankrupt because the CEO blew all their profit on sculptures of oddly shaped penises or something.

  • It is going to be hard to potentially have to make GTA 6 the first one I skip entirely (minus II and London I guess, I never got around to playing those. Or the stories).

I had 2000 hours in SA:MP in the ~one year I actively used xFire. I am an absolute GTA nerd.

I’ll survive it, maybe borrow the console version off a friend who ends up buying it or something. But I know for sure I’ll hate myself for having principles. Or I’ll cave in and hate myself for having principles and caving in.
